Sent some knives in to be sharpened, one that was an unsharpened blank, one with a jacked up tip, and one that needed a serious dropping of the edge angle (there were others too, but nothing special with them). I think some reviews of his sharpening could be slightly hyperbolic  but the work was good.

Because it was sent around the holidays, there was a mailing delay snafu, which is fine, and he had troubles with health concerns (and I wish him the best) but I don't mind some delays. It didn't kill me, and I am happy with the edge results, so it worked out for me.

I am especially impressed with my ZT 550 that was sent in (the blade with the blank). He got it as sharp as I can before stropping (like with all knives, a ton of extra stropping with proper technique is never bad to add) and the edge is nice and even. It looks almost machine done.

3 things up for RichardJ sharpening (two from me, one from a friend who might be wondering why I grabbed his arm). Keep up the good work!

we need pic's!!!! :D

The edges don't look too good. Not super polished, but they are pretty sharp. If I were to show off any edge, it would be the ZDP Endura I have which I got with a foggy polished edge that I stropped to mirror.

Don't always judge a knife by how pretty the edge is!

I don't care how pretty it is, I want to see how precisely executed the grind was. Ive been hearing about his work for a while and wanted to see some pictures of his grinds on production knives.

I've sent some knives to Richard J. for sharpening and the quality of the work was outstanding and actually exceeded my expectations in most instances.

Based on my first hand experience with his work I wouldn't say there's anything hyperbolic about the reviews I've read. Pretty spot on in my opinion.

Richard does fantastic work and for what he charges really can't be beat.

Wolf, for what it's worth I highly recommend Richard J. and don't think you would be disappointed in the least. If you have any questions / concerns I'd suggest you contact Richard directly. I'm sure he'd be more then happy to discuss whatever work your considering and give you a good idea of what to expect.

Best of luck!

Everybody likes pictures :D

I'm not in need of his services but I'm sure he does a great job. Its just nice to see the work others do and compare it to your own.

These are two scalpel kiridashi's I've done in the past. They are far sharper than even I expected :)
