Richards Knives: Boyhood Favourates

Very interesting thread. Another Richards penknife.

Thanks for the very interesting additional information, Jack!:thumbup:

Thanks my friend, sorry about the typo there :o Many of the patterns were indeed the same

That's a beauty mate, and great condition too.

Yes indeed  I have a Richards scout knife, where the blue swirl on the pile side is broken up by black, considerably more than here, it seems to be a flaw in the material

Great info on all this Jack. Really enjoyed the photos of the factory and its workers. It obviously became quite a large concern and to my mind produced a quality product. Seem to remember reading somewhere that the firm's ethos was to produce something affordable to everyone, or words to that effect. Also remember them sadly disappearing from the shops during the eighties, which was a shame because as I mentioned there was still a couple I intended to buy. Oh well there's still plenty out there to keep us interested. :)

Hey R.c.s. Received your kind gift yesterday and have taken it to work for a quick clean up. Haven't messed about with it, just done what I could to get any rust off the bolsters, scrubbed the blades back on the stone and sharpened it right up. I'm left with a very sharp and useable little knife with no movement in the blades which have plenty of meat left on them, don't think it's actually been used that much. Like the aged look of it now and plan to carry it at work for jobs such as cutting up rag, opening boxes sharpening up the odd pencil and that sort of thing. It'll be a nice little reminder of the good old days and a handy tool to boot. Thanks ever so much mate, I'm really happy with it and it's much appreciated. :)

I picked up 6 Richards knives yesterday, passed on one or two more which weren't in decent condition. A couple of the ones I got appear unused. Knife on the right is a five-blade camp knife - Speapoint, can-opener, cap-lifter, corkscrew, Philips screwdriver. Will get better pics when time allows

Nice haul that Jack, I like the camper knife. I did a bit of digging about and found a tool kit knife similar to the one you showed. Found it last year going through my dad's stuff.

Nice lot Jack, that blue one looks brand new.

Thanks pal, yeah it doesn't appear to have been used, sort of grey swirl in person :)

Thanks Donn, I'm not sure I've seen a 5-blade before. Nice find there, particularly as it belonged to your dad :) By coincidence, I came across this one last week. Richards sure must have turned out a lot of patterns. The wee wotsit above the knife is a safety guard to slip over the blade when it's being inserted into the knife.

This (along with the Key Knife) was another popular Richards pattern.
