Just received my Jan 2019 issue of "Knife Magazine" and there is an article "Richartz & Richards Cutlery Companies" by Jack Black and Neal Punchard. Jack has a lot of posts on the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blade Forum and looks like he has done a great job on the article. I really liked the photo of the 1942 marked British military issue knife. John

For those who may not know, Jack just happens to be an extremely talented writer and a historian as well.
Here is an interesting Richards knife to compliment that article.
As shown on the front handle, this shell wrapped model celebrates the "Silver Jubilee" which marks the twenty fifth anniversary (1977) of the rein of Queen Elizabeth II.

Knife magazine, good stuff w/ coverage of traditional knives. Although I don't have a subscription now, I have read them in the past even when it was knife world.
I didn't realize our Jack Black was a writer and historian w/ the mag. One of the best things I've taken from the magazine was a lead in to the Bill Ruple Slip Joint Class. It was a great experience I'll never forget.

That "Silver Jubilee" reminds me of a GEC 78 - the bail.

Thanks John, I'm glad you enjoyed mine and Neal's piece :) Like many British guys of my age, my first pocket knife was a Richards, and one of my first memories is from standing outside Richards work-entrance, waiting to give my dad his lunch-box

I am lucky to have a great collaborator in Neal Punchard :)

I heard Neal Punchard is pretty "sharp" too ;)

You've heard correctly my friend, and a really nice guy too :)

After reading Jack's article I rummaged through some knives and discovered this shell knife. A perfect match for the one pictured in the article. A most enjoyable read.View attachment 1040862

Glad you enjoyed it Dwight, the photos belong to my friend and co-author Neal Punchard, as do the knives (though I have a lot of Richards knives myself) Cool pic, I have one of those too! :)

Nicely done Jack.

Thanks guys :)

Here is another neat Richards item. This was an "Anglers Companion" fishing set from the 1960s / 1970s which included a knife and a fish scale in a case.

Great find my friend :)

LOvely :)

You too eh JP?! ;) :)

What a pairing of two great minds, I have met up with both of these guys and I can tell you that they are absolutely top rate people, I am that much better off as a person to have met them.
I want to read this article!!!!

I'm sure we are better for having met you too Duncan, your name came up often when I was in Sheffield with Barrett (@btb01) yesterday, as did Neal's :)

I really need to take some better photos of my knives  Here's a few from my Richards collection, which might be of interest

Aaaaggghhh
I felt the back if my ears burning my friend. Lucky Barrett - I hope we read more of this meeting?

Barrett has posted a couple of pics in the Lambsfoot thread Duncan :)

We went in the (increasingly disappointing) museums. Stan is still recovering from a cataract operation, so he wasn't at work, but at least he hasn't forgotten your Pruner (as he always tells me when I ask), the blade is still in his work-tray on the bench, (where's it's been for the past for the past 2 1/2 years!) I shall broach the subject again soon ;) Duncan, wishing you and Sue a very Happy Christmas, and I hope we can tour Sheffield together again soon my friend :)
