Richartz & Richards

That "conversion" knife is such a cool piece.

Thanks John, Decimalisation was a big thing when I was a kid here in 1971. Having spent several years learning to count in pounds, ounces, stones, guineas, shillings, etc I kind of felt we had been cheated, but what the hey?! :rolleyes:

I just picked up my Knife magazine yesterday, and read the Richards/Richartz article as soon as I got home!! Great article Jack and Neal!! Nicely done!!
I can't find this Richartz knife, but I am sure I still have it!! Luckily here's a pic or two;

What a pairing of two great minds, I have met up with both of these guys and I can tell you that they are absolutely top rate people, I am that much better off as a person to have met them.
I want to read this article!!!!

I believe that top rate people tend to hang around other top rate people, and this forum is overflowing with such!!!

Nice Richards additions from V.P., Jolipapa, and Jack.
A very unusual German made Richartz variation from waynorth, and thanks also for the kinds words.

I'm very much looking forward to reading this article. :):thumbsup:
I've saved up about half a year's worth of "Knife Magazine" issues (and a whole season of Doctor Who) to savor during my post-Xmas stay-cation. :D

Barrett has posted a couple of pics in the Lambsfoot thread Duncan :)

We went in the (increasingly disappointing) museums. Stan is still recovering from a cataract operation, so he wasn't at work, but at least he hasn't forgotten your Pruner (as he always tells me when I ask), the blade is still in his work-tray on the bench, (where's it's been for the past for the past 2 1/2 years!) :rolleyes: I shall broach the subject again soon ;) Duncan, wishing you and Sue a very Happy Christmas, and I hope we can tour Sheffield together again soon my friend :) :thumbsup:

That's nice Duncan :) I spoke to Stan about a week ago, and he is well, just missing working! :D Love to you and Sue my friend, hope you have a wonderful Christmas :) :thumbsup:

I have not yet received my January 2019 issue of Knife World. I just got the December issue the week before last. I am very much looking forward to reading the article. Richards knives, of some variation, were the most common knife in my pocket from the time I was 6 years old. However, I currently do not own one. I do have this Richartz Bros., made in Germany, not in quite as good a condition as Charlie's.

Huzza, huzza!!:eek:
:D
Great Knife, Dwight!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Nice knife Dwight, and an interesting one :thumbsup: The threading on the bolster reminds me of Richards bolsters, such as the ones on these knives. Also, interesting to see Richartz secondary 'No88' tang-stamp (Richards was No30).

If it had not been for WW2, I think those 2 companies would have had a very different history, and more openly collaborative relationship.

Thank you Jack for the info and posting these pics. Is there any particular significance to the fact that liners, bolsters, pins... everything is iron? Is that due to the war or were they always made that way?

None of those knives would have actually been made during the war Vince. I think it's just that they were inexpensive knives, and most knives were made like that at one time. Are the bolsters hollow or solid on your Richartz, I note the pivot pin, but Richards early shell-handled knives were pinned through the bolster (the two in my pic above aren't)?

They certainly seem solid to me but honestly I really don't know how to tell.
