my credit cards from the usa if you have this problem will deliver new ones within a few hours.

also i would think you have a police report to back up your issue then you can beg off the hotel for a few hours.

i smell fish.
 
This sounds EXACTLY like the Facebooks scam that there was a special on the news about recently.

Hackers go in and literaly take over an individuals facebook account, and lock out the true account holder.

Then they email all of the individuals contacts with just such an email. It sounds like the person due to the amount of personal info gleaned from the account.

It is extremely likely a scam.
 
I received this email too, and thought it was fishy from the start. I opened a dialog with the guy and this is what happened.

"Hello!
I'm sorry I didn't inform you about my traveling... am presently in
London, United Kingdom on short vacation and as i write to you
now..its unbelievable am stuck here,got mugged at gun point on my way
to the hotel and my money,credit cards,phone and other valuable things
were taken off me at gun point, thanking Almighty God for save
keeping my passport., i really need your urgent assistance quickly ? I JUST
NEED SOME FEW HUNDREDS $$$ TO SORT OUT MY HOTEL BILLS AND i promise
to refund it back to you once i get home cause i still have some cash
in my account but i cant access any here right now ,already canceled
all my cards immediately after the muggers took my things off me!!!
still at the public internet library where am making use of the free
internet access, i will forever be grateful if you can help
me,Waiting to hear from you quickly cos my flight leaves in few hrs
but need to sort the hotel bills and please save me from been embarrassed.

My response:

"Hello Rick,
I sure don't mind helping out, but sorry for being suspicious can you
give me some prove of that it is really you.

His reply:

"It's me, omg!! this is for real, i'm doing everything possible to get
myself back home peacefully.. have been to the cops to report the
matter but they said i should wait for 2 weeks for proper
investigation and i cant wait for that cos am freaked out here.

Though the consulate are helping me out with my return ticket but i
need some $$ i dont just have enough on me right now, will pay back
once i get home."

My second response:

"I'm sorry, but the way this communication is going is (almost) proof enough for me that you are not Rick. A few simple answers will proof me wrong.

1. What did you build for me and in which year?
2. How much did I pay you for it and how?

Marcel"

After this no reply what so ever. In the meantime Rick has informed all the people in his maillist about this scam.

I'm off to Western Union right now to help him. I was going there anyway, because I have a small deposit to make to an attorney in Nigeria. It appears my long lost uncle has left me some money. :p :thumbup:

Knife crimes have risen there, but the UK laws have pretty much eliminated guns as a factor in minor crimes. Even the cops don't carry.
The email is a scam for this and other telltale reasons.

Not germain to the issue at hand but thought this was interesting reading. Looks like it is still possible to be robbed at gunpoint in the UK. Handguns were used in 4,151 offenses in 2007/2008. (page 92...use the search function for "gun")

WHEN GUNS ARE OULAWED ONLY OUTLAWS HAVE GUNS. Sad but true.How stupid that some think confinscating guns helps crime go away.:jerkit:

A similar email was sent through the knife community last year sometime, and I believe it was Kevin Cashen who identified it as a scam right away because in his words, "Anyone asking a bunch of knifemakers for money has to be a scammer!" :D
 
this was on the news near me,
the scam is they hack somones email and then send out that fake story to everyone in that persons email conyacts saying they need money to get out of whatever foreign country.
 
I got an email from like this a while ago. I can't remember who it was supposed to be from, but it was someone in the knife world. I knew it was a scam, so I replied back "Dude your f#$%&ed!" :D

Apparently you misread my statement! I ain't in any way saying this is the uk THANK GOD.I will also be an OUTLAW till they pry off my cold dead fingers. The jerkit symbol was for the antigunners.
