Ridge on Spine of Fat Green Linen GW?

Now I know what Skunk Junk is, sheesh. There was a piece of leather in the box with my GW and I thought it was supposed to attach to the Kydex sheath. I spent a half hour trying to make it fit. I almost returned it thinking it was part of somebody else's order.:D

By the way mine has the same ridge as the others.

Youve been SKUNKED.

OK, I see that others who have received the new Green Linen Fat GW have noticed the same definite thumb ridge on the spine with a mixture of sharp and dull edges - I can always sharpen this whale myself, but I hesitate to smooth out the peaked line on the spine into a smooth swell...

Here's a lemonade idea, tell me what you think: what about using the spine line as the starting line for a series of shallow thumb grooves cut into the spine for non-slip thumb placement? Would it void the famed and unmatched Busse warrenty? Anyone (Ban?) have experience adding thumb grooves to a small Busse? Would the Busse Custom Shop do it? (I know, I know, ask them). Just looking for comments, ideas, opinions...

Thanks for the replies,
"Bloody Bill"

each knife is hand finished and some by different craftsmen, remember they are considered a semi production hand finished blade.

.

Well, if that's the case, maybe they could start sharpening them before they ship? ASH was far from what I'd call $400 knife sharp and the same is true for the Fat GW's I've bought.

Hope Jerry is listening. :)

I like mine a lot.
They are fat little ingots of INFI.
The suddle variations make me want more than one of each.
Trying hard to resist going back for more:cool:
The full height grind is amazing:thumbup::thumbup:

I went over the micarta with a toothbrush and some dish soap to remove any shop oil, or machining residue...

What he said. :)

I love these fat little buggers. The Best Wardens Yet!

Sharp little railrod spikes - tough and rugged EDC:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

One of my coyote ingots has a hump-back and the other has a ridge-back... Wheeeeee! :D Just bring the .320 wardens next, Skunker!

I have a similar ridge.

Mine'll wear off while I'm stripping beavers though.

Question- are those "Fatties" sharp and can you cut anything with them? Looks cool, but if you something need more than a prybar- how is the cutting capability?

Boar-gen

i think they are sharp, i supposed a guy could probably make one sharper but mine will shave hair.

Answer: the edge is tough like the whole knife is tough. If you want it sharper, do it.

I think "sharp" is obviously subjective. The stock grind is somewhere in the area of about 30-35 degrees I imagine.
My fatty warden when stock would not shave anything and was the least sharp knife I own. I convexed it, at which point it was considerably better. I then gave it the 'apple cutting' test and it failed pretty bad and at that point I decided it just wasn't for me. Right before I sold it I had a local maker put a standard 40 degree grind on it. The difference between that 40 degree grind and the stock grind is pretty huge.
Again it's all toa each their own. A small knife should be thin and sharp and able to slice and dice. A fatty warden isn't my style, but an OJ sure is!

"Factory sharp" is subjective and seems to vary widely and has for as long as I have been buying Busse knives.

"Butter knife sharp" sounds pretty objective to me(as in I would "Object" to that in a Factory New knife)

Complain, send it back and the factory will sharpen the knife(you will likely pay shipping at least one way and you need to talk to someone on the phone first prolly.

On the other hand, if you know how to sharpen a knife, or have some one close by do it, you are not out ther knife for the time needed to ship to the factory, have them get around to it and ship it back.

I have in the past sent as many as a dozen at a time back to get sharpened when I did not like Dull knives shipped to me to sell as a dealer.

Jerry fixed that by sending me a Factory strop way back in 2001(got to love the Busse Factory Strop by the way) Said if not sharp enough to suit me, to sharpen them till they are, and if I got complaint, to refer them to Him.

So it was written and so it was Done.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I'm going to contact Busse Combat to see if they will cut some thumb grooves into the spine starting just in fron of the ridgeline going forward for approximately 5/8 inch - and if they'll sharpen the butterknife edge too while they're at it.

I too love these fat GWs; they have a comfortable heft and authority 'way beyond their actual size - and my new fat green linen humpback GW (Green Whale) may very well become my favorite EDC of my eight Game Wardens.

Thanks again!
