Today was sunny and beautiful, temps around 45, and I bushwacked my way across two ridges in Harriman State Park.
This is Stahahe High Point, clearly marked on the map and an obvious destination point. There were several fire pits all of which looked well used. There's one in this pic behind the trees.
I love this view, a sea of little mountaintops
Things got a little hawkish, there were 5 or 6 of these guys soaring gracefully around
Lake Stahahe
Since I have a weird fascination with abandoned mines I followed a trail to Boston Mine. The icicles you can see were melting rapidly in the sun and would fall creating a soft crashing noise that would echo around making a beautiful sound. I listened for awhile
Next we went to the Surebridge Mountain ridge, this man was having a great day
If you ever get lost on the Southern part of Surebridge Moutain in the rain, there is a great campsite waiting for you. The cave is deep enough to get nicely out of the elements and there's a fire pit all ready to go
Island Pond from Surebridge Mountain
Another nice view from Surebridge Mountain
The sun sets over Island Pond
I still had over a mile to go on the AT to get back to the car. I've been on this section of trail at least 10 times so I thought it would be an interesting challenge. I had enough light to navigate fairly easily by until the last 2000 feet or so. Since the sky was clear and the moon is near full I almost stopped to wait for the moon to rise, but since we had traveled this trail earlier in the day, Richard was able to smell our way home
