Up on the block is a Custom Shop Ridgeback Howler, 5 serrations (rarer), with a kydex sheath. The Howler has seen some light use, and been lightly sharpened. There is light smoothing of the coating near the edge and tip, as highlighted in the photos. $160 $145 shipped.

What is the purpose of the serrations on the back? Is the whole spine of the blade sharpened, or just the teeth?

Is it sharp enough to saw something with or is it more for looks?

I have seen photos of these but have never handled one.
 
The spine is flat ground to an angle more resembling a band breaker. It is reasonably sharp, and it very well suited to sawing. As far as the purpose, it's a toss up. I think this is a great hunting or camping knife. The saw could do joints and bones, or thick tinder. Bottom line is that Swamp Rats are great usable knives, and they were thinking of adding a bonus to a proven design.
