Ridiculous shopping carts

Who has/had them? Those ridiculous shopping carts loaded with knives from all kinds of companies that have racked up a pretty penny, these days, sometimes 2 knives do the trick--- now what you put in the cart and what you actually ended up going through with purchasing I assume may be different. Every on topic story/post welcome
I try not to keep open orders, especially for a small or family business. If I want to bookmark individual knives, I can do that on my browser and even make a bunch of different files to find them with.

The one time I had an open order sitting overnight for a couple hundred dollars, I got an email in the morning from the regional knife store asking if I needed any help. For a few orders, if I left them open, the company would probably send a guy to complete the order at my doorstep and bring along starving orphans to hurry things along...

"You're at my doorstep, it's haggling time."

"OK, we'll go from 10 to 12% off for this purchase."

"Let's make it 15%."

"OK, but you have to take one of the orphans."

I can't afford to buy multiple knives as the knives I like are two expensive. Last purchase was a $930 R&H Knives Tasca 2.

By “open order” you mean it was in your cart? I had no idea that would/could save your order, or that anyone else even could see it…. Guess I should be mindful not to do that in the future

Some sites have shopping carts that are deleted if items are in there "too long".
Annoying.

If I’m on the fence I’ll add it to my wishlist. I only add it to my cart if I intend on purchasing it.

Cheers,
Mac

Stupid question, so be nice, when you add it to the cart, it doesn’t reserve the item in the store’s inventory for you? I assume even if you did add to your cart, it is not reserved and it is still up for sale unless you check out.

For most places it does not reserve inventory, only checking out does that.

Can only speak from a small outfit (my) perspective. When stock is limited to one, say a knife, or a holster or something, if someone puts it into a cart and then doesn't complete the transaction the system can take it out of stock since there is only one. So it might still be in stock but not showing that way cause it is in someone's cart. Usually the system will correct with some time if they don't complete a purchase. Not always though but most of the time. We often get a call: " I tried to buy this knife online but it won't let me." Lil digging around, as we can track what happens on the site, and in and out of the cart multiple times over a couple of three days. It won't let them complete the purchase cause its not in stock but it is, but its not, but it is. I dunno, puters! A quick call, talk to my wife and she can get it sorted. Probably similar to lots of other smaller outfits or even larger outfits on items with limited stock. Heck I even did it myself once on a Bluegun I needed for a holster order. Put it in the cart and went out to the shop to see if there was anything else I needed from that outfit. Forgot about it and went back to work. Few days later haven't seen any processing for my Bluegun order. Go on line and now that Bluegun is out of stock. Give em a call and a visual check shows they still have one in stock. Diggin around it shows out of stock cause its sitting in my cart from a few days ago. That was a large outfit.

You know why they have small baskets at the grocery store? So you take a grocery cart.

The Trader Joes near me took away all the baskets, only leaving carts. I only ever bought certain things there, but they used to get me with a bag of chips or something.

But I won't use a cart, the store is a madhouse and what I want is on opposite sides, so navigating with a cart takes 4x as long. So I stopped picking up the impulse buys, no arm room.

I don't know if that was a common-enough behavior with their customers to show up on reports, but the baskets came back.

I don't believe it reserves the item, I had items in carts at dlt and bhq and elsewhere that were sold out while I sat on them and when I decided to purchase it said something along the lines of, there was an error with your request, item no longer in stock

I was charged for a knife, that I did not get because it was out of stock. Blade HQ and my Bank had outstanding customer service. I got my money back after several phone calls and several days, but I got my money back in the end.

That wasn't the only reason I was upset.

The main reason I was upset is that I didn't get the knife I wanted.

Then, I came here to vent and well, you saw how that went...

That's going to come down to the individual website you work with, but typically not.

When there are feeding frenzies during sales, I'll sometimes get an email after making an order about an item being out of stock, which during a sharp and pointy feeding frenzy is a thing that can happen. Then I'll either cancel or change the order to something else.
