I know a lot of people on here like to shoot guns and I was thinking of getting a .22 rifle that I could bring with me while in the woods. But I would like to make it myself from a kit. Anyone know where to get such a kit? I couldn't find any online. Any help would be much appreciated. Also does anyone have experience putting together a gun kit or truley making one from scratch? If so post some pictures.

There are no kits, per se, but you can create your own.

Buy a stock Ruger 10-22 and strip out everything. There are enough parts available to make this into any type of .22 semi-auto you want. Or buy a 10-22 receiver from Volquartsen and start from there.

Of course, it'll end up costing at least $1000 or more........but it'll be very nice !

:D

The Ruger10-22 is the most customized rim fire rifle. Many variations from the practical to the ridiculous. A stock rifle upgraded with a set good Williams sights and a scope should be all you need.

There is a company located near Chattanooga, TN called Et Cetera that offers such firearms. I am not certain but they appear to be somehow associated with the Colbri brand of kit guns.

You could always build an AR-15 style rifle- either with a dedicated .22LR barrel or upper OR as a 5.56mm rifle, and use a .22LR conversion kit.

Additionally, you will need to buy a lower either stripped or complete (includes fire control components and stock/buffer tube assembly preinstalled) from a local dealer- that is the registered firearm.

Most kit guns that can be found are blackpowder, if you want a small caliber try the .36.

my choice would be to pick up a used 1022, slim down and refinish the stock, lose the barrel clamp, and either bed the barrel or the action to the stock. retain the original sights in case of scope failure{you fail to protect it}and stick a good 3 x 9 scope on it. pick up a couple of the original 10 rd mags at wally world and you're set for the next 60 years. very little cash outlay and a very reliable usable gun. for less you could do the above to a marlin .22 auto and have pretty much the same results. good luck and let us know what you decide. ahgar

Call these people. They use to have EVERYTHING you could want, and you could even use their shop to finish off the receivers. Their product line is no where near what is was a couple years ago, and I am not sure why. I would call them and find out, because they did have many many different receivers you could finish off yourself. There was NOTHING cheap as far as quality about any product they had.
