Rifle Scope

For what you are going to be using it for, a fixed 4 power Leupold would be great. Fixed power scopes are more durable and have less problems.
You can find nice used ones on the auction site very reasonably priced. And even though you aren't the original owner, Leupold still warranties the scope for life...

Cheap scopes are not as clear, may not be sealed as well, or hold adjustment.

Someone mentioned the B&L scopes. Those and Nikon are both excellent scopes.

I rarely use a variable power scope, but when I do, its usually a 1.5x6

what is getting it acklyized? and i dont handload.

Having a round "Acklyized" is a refrence to a slight modification to the chamber of your rifle, and fireforming the ammunition to decrease body taper and increase shoulder angle, resulting in a higher case capacity. so it's a reloaders only game. Named after the Famous gunsmith P.O. Ackley who invented it.

This is a .243 Win Ackley Improved and a regular .243 Win. Normal gain is 7-10% in capacity and 50-150fps in velocity

Basically PO aAckley was a "wildcatter" he found that he could improve the chamber of certain calibers such as the .243 which would give overall bullet better performance in velocity and accuracy. Brass is fire formed and then reloaded to the improved caliber.
Fire forming is taking a 30-06 Ackley Improved firing a standard 30-06 cartridge in that rifle. The standard 30-06 brass will take on the shape of the improved chamber

Here's a Wiki about P.O.Ackley http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P.O._Ackley
this will help explain things. Then for more info just Google his name.

I have had a Burris 4X high lumination scope on my 30-06 for years. It has served me well. If I was to kick it up a notch I would go with a 6X. I have a friend that is a remarkable shot. He was a big coyote and crow hunter in the day. With his 6mm and a 6x scope, he was a dead shot.
