I recently picked up a Buck Selector with two additional blades. The standard clip point blade has the nail nick on the right side of the blade. This is great if I happened to be left handed (I'm not). :(

The Selector (this one is actually the 429 model, circa 1994, is a really neat idea and I don't know why it didn't survive longer than it did. It seems like it would be a good utility for taking along on a hunting trip. One neat little package that allows one to swap out the blade depending on what the chore was. I have the standard clip point blade, a drop point serrated blade as well as a saw blade.

...???...

Sounds interesting...if somewhat confusing...do you have the pics on your site yet??? ;)

Well, here is a photo of the Selector with the nail nick on the right side. The photo is of the left side without the nail nick so just use your imagination for the left side. :D I've added a few additional knives to the group so you may want to follow the link and have a look. http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c277/michaelkerins/?sc=1

That's a Selector??? It looks just like a Bucklite 426... :(

Sorry, I'm just a bit disappointed it's not something...different... :o

Well, the only difference is that the blade, when opended to 90 degrees and you depress the lock, the blade can be removed and a new one installed. Of course that's a little difficult to show all in a photo.

Mike,

What is the knife comparable to in size, 110, 112? :jerkit:

The lock is where the blade pivot is on a 110 (or 426)??? A stepped pin with a coil spring???

Trax,
What I'm referring to is where you depress the lock at the rear of the knife. The blades made for the selector have an open slot rather than a hole within which the blade pivot is inserted. When you open the blade 90 degrees, the slot is aligned in such a manner that allows for it to be pulled out once you depress the lock and disengage the other end from the blade. (hope that made sense. my knife terminology is lacking) It is the blade exchange option that I find interesting and Oh yeah....wouldn't it be cool if that were designed into a 110 or 112? (hint) ;)

B2B,
I know it's hard to believe but I really have no interest in the 500 series. The 500 shown is the only one I own and it is actually a fairly frequent EDC. I really like the size and have a nice sheath to carry it in.

Yes it would! Do you need any help? Parts, tools, advice? Just give me an email! I'm here to help! :D

The way I see it...The 426 used a steel pin peened over a small washer [pronounced "worsher"] on each end...The 110/112 used a brass pin that is "crushed" [for lack of a better term] in place...To mod a 110 to take slip-in blades would take some engineering expertise...Say - Didn't someone here say that he was an engineer, and his mind overworks on design details??? "Anal", I think he described himself... ;) :D

JB,
The blade is based on the 110.

Oh Mike,

I think its time for our fowl freind to make another knife. What do you think trax? I've never liked the looks of these plastic handled Bucks. However, I do like the idea of exchanging the blades on a 110. How about it trax or are you chicken! :D ;) :D
