Right vs. left handed CQC-7's

I have been looking at Emerson knives with interest lately, specifically the CQC-7. Never owned a chisel bladed or a tanto bladed knife. When I look at the pic’s of it, it appears that the right handed model with the shaped chisel edge is on the left side of the blade. Isn’t it the case that when cutting, you would want the flat (non-chiseled) side touching the material to be cut (a stick for instance) similar to a sushi chef using a sushi knife on a piece of fish? Hence, the right handed model would actually be made for a left handed person (of which I am one)?

If that’s the case, is it possible to get a right handed model with the pocket clip on the left side of the handle?

Sounds to me like you would want the actual lefthanded model. The reason I say that would be the fact that the lefthanded model has the exact same blade, just the lockbar interface is actually ground the other way for the lefthand handle. Lefthand model is a true lefthand chisel ground blade IMO. If I am wrong, please correct me! I believe akapennypincher has one of the lefty-7s.

Oh....I assumed that on the left handed model the blade was reversed with the chiseled side (with the logo's on it) being the right side of the blade. If both models have the same blade, but just the clip and lockbar on the other side, I am in business! Thanks!

Google Search Left Handed Emerson CQC-7, than look at the photos. To make it as simple a possible the Blade Etching is on the same side of both the left, and right hand models. The left handed CQC-7 Is a mirror image of the right handed made with everything else reversed.

Come on, pennypincher. Get us a couple of photos of yours. It'seasy to do.

Haven't pulled the trigger yet. It is seemingly difficult to find a left handed CQC-7 at all the usual Emerson sources. I'll keep looking.

Well, I pulled the trigger on a left handed CQC-7BW directly from Emerson today! Hopefully will have it next week. If it's as good as everyone says, my Benchmade HK Axis might be looking for a new home.

When you get it please report, or better yet show with photo illustrations. As I assume you are getting YEAR BORN 2014, and should be with BACKSPACERS.

I am assuming coming from Emerson, it was made in the last few months and therefore might have backspacer's?? I would imagine since Emerson was out of the left handed CQC-7's, and I received an email a week or two ago saying that they were back in stock that they are current production. Whether that means it has backspacer's, we'll see. It's my understanding that some current production does, and some don't. I'll hope to be happy with it either way! Pic's will be forthcoming.

Well there was a discussion recently Backspacers, v/s Standoff. Check it out, they both work.

Just got my new left handed CQC-7 today! I can honestly say that this is the sharpest knife I've ever gotten new. This thing is truly "scary sharp". It did come with standoffs, and looks really nice. The G10 is pretty rough though. Might have to break out the 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper...we'll see. Overall, very pleased!

Thanks for posting your images of you new Emerson, Standoffs look sharp.

The lefty version is nice for us southpaws as the chisel grind is on the proper side of the knife. Tried slicing some paper, some zip ties here at work and whittled a stick a bit and it works nicely. First chisel grind I've owned, and it works well - wasn't sure if it would cut quirky. Also as an aside, the fit and finish is perfect.

One time in my life being left handed was a good thing.
