Anyone have any info/history on bowies like the one used in 'Young Guns' by Lou Diamond Phillips character? Just wondering if that is an older design that was actually used for something particular in the past or if it is a Hollywood style used only for flair/flash to sell movies?

Thanks for any/all info!
Shawn

You might try posting this in the custom knife forum. There are bound to be some bowie historians there that could help you out.

Shawn, I think there is a photo of a ring knife in the Antique Bowie book. Can't recall it's official name off the top of my head, the heat has fried what brains I had. I believe it's in the section on California style bowies. Hope this helps. Mike

Steve/m l,
Thanks for the info! I'll post in Custom and check out that book and see what I can dig up. Seems like there must be some purpose to them.
