I just finished posting 14 large blocks of Ringed Gidgee in our web store.

Ringed Gidgee is a beautiful hardwood from Australia. Kind of like a cross between Koa and Ironwood. Gidgee is a member of the Acacia family like Koa and grows in arid conditions resulting in a very dense, hardwood like desert Ironwood. These are natural hardwood blocks. They have not been chemically stabilized. In the future there will be some stabilized blocks of Gidgee at a price that is a bit higher. For this first batch I started with some of the more affordable pieces.

Gidgee sands and polishes up nicely. If you come across any hairline checks just apply a drop or two of thin CA glue and finish sanding before the glue dries. After sanding a couple coats of Danish or Tung Oil gives a really nice finish.

These blocks come with a no questions asked money back guarantee. Free US Shipping.

I found these when going through some boxes in my work shop.
The wood is African Blackwood. It is a variety of Rosewood that is great for ferrule and handle material.
At first glance the blocks look black but when in direct light you can see some other colors.
This wood is nothing really fancy but makes a great contrast when used along with other more dramatic woods.
