Rinse your folder under hot water? Good idea?

Your good as long as you don't live in a coastal area with high humidity. Then it doesn't matter what you do, knives are going to rust. Flamtnbkr, probably lives in a area that while near the gulf or ocean doesn't suffer from high humidity. I live near the coast in LA and I find its not the salt water that does it, it is the insane humidity. We've had like 7 or 8 days in a row over 90% everyday. Everything that ain't aluminum, titanium, Good stainless or painted well is rusting as I write this. Every morning for about the last week, when we wake up every window pane in the house is fogged up like someone took a steam shower all night. It's miserable and disgusting at the same time, now we've got oil slick and the summer mosquitoes, ya'll come on down its delightful.

The first thing I do when I get a knife (new or used) is lightly scrub it with a tooth brush with dish soap under very hot tap water. It helps to get out all the machining junk that they often leave behind and gets rid of all the oil they slather all over em. After washing I get the tap water as hot as it will go and give it a final rinse and then take it out and dry it on a towell. I then go out in the garage and blow the rest of the water out with my air compressor (A knife nuts best friend!).

This is my process:

1. Wash with soap and hot water. Scrub with a toothbrush.
2. Shake excess water out.
3. Dry with a towel.
4. Dry with a hair dryer (I get mine pretty hot. I'm not sure if this is a good idea if you have plastic washers in your pivot.)
5. Let it cool down.
6. Use a syringe to inject oil into the pivot.
