RIP Barbaro

He put up one heck of a fight. Almost willed himself to overcome a tragic accident and crippling condition. Sad to see it end this way.

Damn, I was just about to post this; I read it a few minutes ago. Breaks my heart.

Its a shame, he had a lot of promise. I was up near the Fair Hill stables the other day, didn't even stop to see if he was out in the excercising field.

Having owned several thoroughbreds myself, that is one tough decision to make (I'm glad I never had to do it). However, there comes a time when there are simply no options left. R.I.P, Barbaro.

Hey, Ren. Pottymouth! KV's going to get you.

BTW, I think that this guy might be my first use of the ignore button.

Infractions have been issued. The next step will be walking the plank.

Let's get back to Barbaro.

I am very glad that they did the Humane thing, and put him down. I am sorry that had to happen.

I wonder if efforts are even now underway to clone this horse...

Probably not. Throughbred racing has very specific rules about conception. Artificial insemination is not allowed and I'm sure clones would not be either. So, the clone would be a very expensive curiosity with no racing value.

I used to work -- many years ago -- for a large- (and small) animal veterinary hospital fixing X-Ray equipment. We had a lot of race horses in. They are amazing animals because they just love to run.

My father had an Apaloosa, an old Baltimore dock cart pony that was rescued, and a half Arabian mutt. All three loved to eat and run. I used to run with them, never rode them, just run with them. If those three porkers loved to run, I can only guess at what a fit thoroughbred could do.
