Hello:

I got a heartbreaking phone call last night...one of my old friends and legendary maker Bob Loveless passed away. Most think he wasd just a "stock removal" guy but he started out forging and no one can deny all that he has done for custom kinves in general. He IS a LEGEND.

Now I am usually pretty reserved about my feelings but I am truly heartbroken. We got thrown out of resturaunts together, raised Hell and even started the California Knifemaker's Association with the late Bob Engnath, Alex Collins and Sherman Williams. So many of my friends are passing and I am starting to feel a bit mortal myself.

So raise a beer to Mr Loveless and wish him peace...He was a remarkable man

Yes he certainly is a legend ! Everybody interested in knives knows or should know the name Loveless.

Loveless, more than any other single person, defined the custom knife industry in the US.

Wow, what a loss. Not only did he contribute to the knife community in an immense way, off all of the interviews I've read, he must have been a helluva character!

I heard about Mr. Loveless' passing earlier today and I have to say I'm deeply saddened. He is truly a legend and will be sorely missed.

I know that no words can be adequate, but I deeply admired Bob Loveless.
He was a living legend. Every time somebody like him passes away, the world loses a bit of art and soul.

Dr. Jim, I'm heartbroken as well. Try to be happy that you were able to spend time with Bob. It sounds like you guys had a lot of fun. I didn't know him personally, but his is the first knifemaking book I purchased and the one I continue to use. I agree, he's a legend! As a new knifemaker, I just want to thank you, Mr. Loveless, Mr. Engnath, and the other guys for all you've done. I was just mentioning to my wife last weekend how amazing the knifemaking community. For example, keeping Mr. Engnath's website information up and running for everyone to share. I bet if I were brand new and posted something about wanting to give it a try, someone would offer some free steel, handle material, etc... That's just how giving and how cool this community is.
Thanks again!
Todd

Damn, that is truly sad news. My thoughts go out to the family and the knife community in general, both of whom have suffered a really big loss:(

I learned to make knives from reading his book. I never met him, but he greatly influenced me.

i said this elsewhere this morning, but it's still all i can think to say:

I didn't even know who the man was before the influence he has had on knifemaking influenced the shape and form a knife conjures in my mind.

he will be sadly missed.

I will raise a glass and mourn the passing of a LEGEND,Rest in Peace Mr.loveless.
Stan

Will raise a beer to the legend. I never met him but it's clear from all the interviews and stories about him that he lived well and was quite a character.

Your books are prizes in my library and I see you as many saw Loveless so take care of yourself for all of us that admire you. Don't let this loss get you down.
