Ripped Jeans

i wear levis and it held out fine... mostly I smoothed every coarse g10 under the pocket clip.

eta: wave feature on my delica certainly did ripped my pocket's corner.

Hi Guys,

This is an idea I goofed around with 5 years ago. (please note - the website is not active, but I still own the domain, tooling and product.)

The BladeKeeper was designed to protect pockets against knives, tools, lights etc. It was sent out to about 100 testers circa 2007 but never reached retail ops, even though I still own inventory.

There are many people on BladeForums that use their knives as tools and use them hard, many others keep their knives as collector's items or handle them with "kit gloves". If you are one of the latter, the BladeKeeper is not for you. The BladeKeeper was designed to be gentle to pockets and knives, but steel on aluminium contact or can possibly scuff, scratch or wear the handles and scales of knives.

The BladeKeeper can be "crimped" semi-permanently and put through the washer 1000's of times, or can be removed daily. Due to the nature of knives and tools and the million variations, not every knife clip or tool clip will function with the BladeKeeper.

i have some being sent out for a PVD coating (DLC and couple other AlTi) to further reduce friction, scratching and to make the BladeKeeper blend in more.

A few pics below to demostrate:

Because I carry my largest blades in right rear pocket, the bottom of the knife usually wears through the lower portion of the pocket itself. I patch the jeans when I can, and buy new ones when I can't.

Usually the holes in the pocket appear before the corners rip out.

I only wear Urban Star from Costco. There about 20 each. They are very tough but yet have almost a stretch to them. Very comfortable but they can keep in the heat. Defiantly worth the $20 I have multiple pairs.

You folks that say you've never had a pair of jeans shredded by a knife haven't carried a Para or Millie every day or haven't removed them much. I've had wranglers, Levis, Dickies, Lees, Carhartts and other jeans torn to shreds. The Riggs workwear have the leather reinforcement so they do hold up but regular jeans no matter how nice will eventually shred under aggressive G10.

Riggs are tough for the price, but the damn leather pocket reinforcement is too thick.

Still, I wear them for work.

The first thing that goes when I buy a new folder, if it has one, is the clip. Never could get used to them, or found one that was worth using. I just drop them in my right front pocket and go merrily on on my way. I do have some jeans that have a worn spot on the front where the knife sits in the pocket. My main EDC lately is a #6 Opinel with the carbone blade. Can barely tell if I have it in my pocket. Try one, you will like it. :p

Blessings,

Omar

Rotate knives too much to wear one specific spot I guess. I have worn khaki pants for years and never worn one down from the a knife. Best I get is some discoloration generally.

Don't know what to tell you ACE. I carry a Spyderco military in both my left and right front pockets, and a Leatherman Charge in my left rear pocket. I use them all daily, usually multiple times. I do not have one pair of jeans with a shredded corner. Not one. Now I rotate my jeans daily, so that could help. I have five pairs of work jeans, so they only get worn once a week, and also used for yard work although I do not have much of that anymore. Also have like ten pairs of jeans for relaxing at home, etc. I buy jeans whenever I see them for a good price. All my Levi 505's came from Sams Club and were gotten for less than $20.00 a pair. When I see a deal like that, I buy up every pair in my size that I can find. 32W X 34L. Here in Oklahoma that size is rare and hard to find, most stores stock up on sizes for BIG people.

I only wear Wrangler jeans and they stand up pretty well to knife use, but they aren't perfect.
