Has anyone dealt with a certain Herb Greenberg of Oceanside NY? I met him through this BBS. we agreed to do biz, I sent him a money order for the knife...he dropped out of site!! Has anyone here had any dealings with him? and if so what did you do to remedy the situation. I FEEL VERY RIPPED OFF! AND IF ANYONE HERE SHOULD MEET HIM TO BUY ANYTHING...BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!Any comments? I initally came here to meet honest people...i guess there's always one bad person tho.

Thanks David!

Justaskater, it's not that you did anything wrong. But we've set up a special discussion area for discussing online deals that went sour - or turned out good

. It's called "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly".

I'm going to move this thread there, where it will "remain live" for comments, a defense by the dude in question, whatever. The version of the thread here in Community will be locked - go there and you'll see it.

OK? Hope it works out in the end...

Jim

thank you...its been so frustrating...i didn't know my way around here...sorry for posting it here. thanks for the guidance. my message is just a warning for others...

Wouldn't it be a good idea to post his address? where you sent the money order.

Just to prevent others from being ripped off, he might show up under another name.

Or if it's a mistake it maybe can be cleared up.
Just my 0.002 cents

I sent you a e-mail about possibly this person. If you did not get the message contact me at ddeckert@ks.cable.com

Check with the money order company to see if it's been cashed in yet. If it hasn't, then they will often give you a refund minus a charge for the service. When I had to do it for an eBay transaction that went sour, it cost me $8, but it was worth it to get my $300 back. If it has been cashed in, call the feds, that's mail fraud.

Unfortunately there are a few who will try to take advantage of you. Using a U.S. Postal Money order or a credit card helps with the dishonest few.

Put a trace on the money order now! If it has already been cashed talk to your local postal inspector about mail fraud. U.S. Postal Money orders and mail fraud are taken seriously.

Stay Sharp,

I warned about this son of a leper rat bastid recently...he's got $150 of mine.
His phone number is 516 818 0361...ring and leave a message for him like I have for the past 6 months. Kiss your money goodbye, or if you see him, please get my $150.

10/5/00 today Hank Greenberg of Oceanside NY honored our agreement and i am here to say that i am satisfied with the outcome...to all of those concerned that got back to me...THANK YOU.

Another update...he's promised me a refund but then he's done that before. If he does come thru I'll surely post the happy outcome to take some of the edge off my earlier comments.

Hey man...I'm sure, if he doesn't pull though...you will get your money if you have an address. We have some buddies up there in good ol' NY.

After hearing how the Postal Inspectors have put inordinante efforts into tracking down and arresting folks for frauds involving very small amounts of money (heck, the biggest postal money order you can buy is $800), I've taken to using postal money orders a lot. They're not very expensive, they're considered as good as gold by every seller I've every dealt with, and you get a lot of protection. Furthermore, my local Post Office takes debit cards right there. So, you don't even need cash. In fact, they'll even give you cash back while you're at it. And I think Sherwood, Oregon has the friendliest postal clerks in the country.
