Had to happen, I guess.

I'm always the optimistic one, but this doesn't look good.

Clicked "buy it now" on 6/28/03, but the PayPal did not work.
The seller said "oh, been having problems, just send a check"

Forgot postage, so the check came back. I emailed, explained, he said no problems. He got the check on 7/7 or thereabouts. Have never since heard from him.

Now he is no longer an "ebay registered user".

Repeated emails get no response.
The phone number provided to me by Ebay is "temporarily out of service"

"outdoorsuperstore" was the ebay name
"Matthew Klein" is his name
Eagan, MN is the location
651-336-7203 is the bad phone number
"greatoutdoors@attbi.com" is one of the email addresses
"matthew.klein@comcast.net" is another email address

It's only $55 but its the damn principle of the thing.

I guess I give up.

Contact the ISP's and tell them the account has been used for fraudulent purposes.

Contact the postal inspectors as well.

Bet you one of these two is him. Give em a call ;)

M B Klein
Eagan, MN

Matt Klein

Eagan, MN

That's a shame. I dealt with Matt about a year ago and he was doing a good job. But from his feedback it appears that he's turned into a crook. eBay should shut him down for good given his record.

DaveH: I will contact the Postal Inspector. I may wait for the cancelled check, but I'll probably look into an investigation first.

BadGuy: (Thank you) One of those two addresses/numbers seems to be him, (Birch Pt) but I have tried for several days and get a recording "your call did not go through, please try again". Odd, it's like it's not "disconnected" but almost the same?

The other number is not him.

csp20108: I'll check that out.

Trane fan: Its a shame, if he would just call or email and say "hey I'm having problems, etc.," my patience would last a real long time. Ignoring me is NOT the answer.

Thank you guys for your suggestions and support. I really appreciate it. Thanks for making me part of the "family", thats one of the real great things about this forum. People seem to watch out for each other.

I'll post any updates.

Thanks Again
John

John:

The recording that you encounter may be something that this individual has recorded onto an answering device, etc. Some persons attempting to evade bill collectors or others whom they do not wish to receive contact use this ruse to avoid direct contact yet they advise "freindly contacts" of what would otherwise be considered a "disconnected number". Check with the telephone company to determine if the number is still in use and wait for a beep after the message and try leaving a message. You should also seriously consider filing a complaint as per the earlier suggestion, as you will most likely continue to be put off by this "seller".

All the very best,

Stuart

it's mail fraud, so report him to the post office,
report it to your bank,
and contact his local authorities as well, preferrably State police, regarding fraud.

don't give up, too many people do, and that only fuels these idiots to go on ripping ppl off. Take action and maybe save some poor guy alot more than $55.00.

Good luck!

This dude is BAD news. He ripped of Dexter Ewing several months ago.
I think Dex managed to get a hold of the *uck face. I forget the outcome, but if I were you, I would contact Dex and ask.

Good luck.

Update

Stu, I have called and called and listened, and I do not think it is an answering machine.

Gonzo, don't worry, I do plan to go the full distance.

Barry H, I don't know Dexter Ewing. Maybe you could email me his contact info.

Thanks folks

Barry and John - I am not sure how I entered into this but for the record, I have never done business with Matthew Klein...so there is no way I was ever ripped off by him. He possibly could have been one of those who emailed me in response to a post I made in the Knives Wanted forum, but I don't remember. I was gathering prices on a certain knife for a friend of mine.

John - I received your email; thanks for writing. I'm sorry I cannot help you out other than to say that you've done the right thing by posting here, and from what I've seen , you've received some good responses. Like its been said here, I would contact the post office and his ISP regarding his use of their services for fraudulent purposes. Best of luck with getting this situation resolved.

Thousand apologies, Dex--my bad.
I had you confused with UWMitch this morning before I had my dose of caffiene.:footinmou

To be clear, UWMitch had the trouble with Klien. I read his story over on "the other forum". I got involved because I am also from the Minneapolis area (as Klien is). I tried getting phone information on the dude and asked around some of the knife stores if anyone knew him.

Let me see if I can round up the original thread and send it to you.

Sorry to be late, don't hang out much here lately, but a friend pointed me to this thread. Yeah, Matt Klein had me for $200 on a Kershaw Whisper when they first got into circulation. After weeks/months of excuses about how he sent it, and this and that I finally gave him an ultimatum (sp?) and told him I was ready to file paperwork with Ebay and the Postal Inspectors. I sent him this notice both by email and registered mail, with return reciept of signature. On the day that I said I would file my claim I money order miraculously appeared.

I really gotta thank Barry for his willingness to go out of his way to ask around about this scum bucket Klein. The address he has listed is in fact his apartment, as I talked on the phone with one of his neighbors who's phone number I happened to find on a web search as well as speaking with his apartment manager. I say send the posties after him. If you need, I have my email correspondance with him to show you're not the only guy he attempted to defraud.

what's interesting with me is that ebay or square deal doesn't give a sh!t. Reinforces my opinion that buying on ebay is a RISK!

Of course I'm also puzzled why anyone would buy something from this person with that kind of feedback.

Back when I bought from him, he had all positive comments, and only one neutral. He had the square deal seal of approval or whatever, so I didn't think it was a risk. Well, I guess he's gone from bad to worse in the time since I had to deal with him...

Yes, yes, the moral of the story is to read feedback.
I am here to take my whuppin' for not doing so.

Ironic that now that he's not a registered ebay user its impossible for me to even leave feedback. In fact, the only link I have to the page for the item in question is from an "ask seller a question" email I sent.

I have not been able to find it on ebay any other way.

-------------

I sure thank you all for your support. I have considered sending a registered letter as mentioned above, but fear that may drive him deeper into whatever hole he's hiding in. I will be taking the next step very soon, and will keep you all informed. I suspect that there are others like me in the same boat as we speak...

------------

Lesson learned, view feedback first...

edited to add: Ebay gave me his name, number, etc., (disconnected) and said they are continuing to work on it. Seems they have no teeth when the user checks out, though...

While I was in the middle of dealing with him, his ebay store disappeared, and it seemed that he disappeared off ebay altogether. It turns out that Ebay had temporarily suspended him due to my complaint against him. After "investigation" Ebay turned his account back on. Do what you need to do. I had already told the apartment manager to not be surprised if Mr. Klein gets a visit from the local police or the postal inspectors.

In addition, Mitch, I have informed the folks at World of Knives (best knife store in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area:) ) that Matt Klein is a scum bag and to watch out for this POS. So hopefully, the squeeze is on.
