Are there any other makers that do this type of thing? I'm interested in doing something like this, and I'm pretty much like thebadguy -- the money dwindles away instead of getting saved up like it should.
A lot depends on the customer. If I feel comfortable with payments, no problem. I don't do payments ahead of completion or paid in advance. If it is a wild thing and lots of high end parts, then it would be a special order and that would be a completely different situation.
Payments on knives are put into a box with the knife, and when the box is full of enough money, the knife is shipped to the customer. I just wished that I had a box for every knife I make .

Ray, I think that is an excellent way of handling payments on a knife. That way you don't have the problem of having spent the money before the knife is started.
