Results from my RIT dye experiment this afternoon. I really like how it turned out.

Nice.

Think I'll do the same to my yeller Salt DF and a stock brown Southard scale I inherited.

Came out nice, what color dye did you use? I did one in Orange last year that came out good and the color has held up well.

Very nice! The dark green is so versatile. Some time back, I used dark green Rit on an Orange BK14 scale, left it a nice Rootbeer brown color.

Good job. It's nice not having to take it apart and just letting it marinate in the dye.

well done. I've dyed at least three spydies myself and haven't had a real issue yet.

Can anything work if you are starting with black handle ? For example black to green or red or does black to red make purple something ?

Hey there Mgj48, to answer your question, no you cannot. The original color of the handle makes a difference in the outcome of the color you're intending to dye it. It's always best to start with light handles and dye them a darker/semi darker color. Black handles however can't be dyed any other color because they're already too dark. Hope this helps

What's the process? Is it just the dye and water and drop the knife in?? I have a gray delica that would probably accept the dye nicely.

Boil the water, pour into a measuring cup, add the powdered dye, stir, and then put the knife in. To get the dark green look, I kept the knife in there for a few hours, dried it, then put it back in for a few hours more. I have a magnetic knife holder in the kitchen so I just let the knife drip dry.

Thanks Kevin. You inspired me and i've already done it to my gray delica. Used royal blue, it came out great! Thanks again, here are some pics of mine. I also stonewashed the blade and pocket clip a while back. This is sort of my guinea pig knife.
