Title pretty much says it all. Thinking about dying digicam PM2 scales: red, blue, gray, other? Have any of you done it? What color looks/works best? Tips on not screwing it up? Thanks!

I was just thinking of doing this in orange or purple. Curious to see what responses come in.

hello, ive used blue rit on my benchmade crooked river grey scales.it came out great. the orange backspacer for some reason would not turn color .I wound up using an artist marker and it turned into a dark copper color, which is better than orange.I used a small cooking pan, heated up the rit and put the scales in a handled cheese grater so its not touching the bottom of the pan, just floating in the middle of the rit.let it sit in there for 10-20 minutes or so you can take it out and check its progress, too.the choce of color is really up to you,i like the blue the best, purple might be cool too.i think any color darker than what the scales are now would help, too. <img src='https://i.imgur.com/A8oNIgo.jpg' />

I would keep them as they are
However I have seen some pictures of blue and red that were not too bad

Why do you want to dye them?

Mix of wanting to personalize the knife and not being a huge fan of the standard digicam the more I look at it.

Now to find some Rit dye!!

I'm tellin ya its great, sometimes I'm tempted to get some knives just for the sake of dying them; I do have a maserin police knife on the way, I got it in the coyote tan that should dye blue nice.imagine how nice the 4max would look in blue, believe me ive been tempted to get that one,too if it wasn't so big and heavy.i may get the We 703 in tan and do that one in purple.i just don't know why the crooked river orange backspacer would not take the dye. its almost as if it is non porous or clearcoated or something, but the scales worked great.I got my rit at walmart

I used red-

Wow thats cool! We used to use RIT die on our lacrosse stix when I was a kid in high school and it worked great. Had no idea it would work on G-10.

You guys that have used it, would you mind posting pics for us to see the results?

If you plan to ever resell it I think it would negatively affect resale value but if you don't care I think it would look good to lighten it with gray or something like that

She'll be a keeper or passed on to a friend in future if not, so not worried about the resale. I think I am between red and gray on this one. Gray looks kinda cool in a subdued way.

Curious, do you have to disassemble the entire knife to rit dye PM2/Military? If so, what would happen to the metal/steel parts if you didn't take the whole thing apart, and just dunked it completely assembled?

I did a camo PM2 in royal blue when I did a blade swap. As such, I took it apart completely. I don't think taking it apart is a requirement, but it was easy to do and helped me to get even coloration everywhere. IMHO, it was just less messy and probably looks a little better than had I not taken it apart.

Thanks for the response. I've taken my PM2 apart, but not a Military at all yet. Let the adventures begin! :D:cool:
