Does anyone have any information about Rite Edge USA knives? I can't find anything on this maker name and sellers on Ebay and so forth are advertising these knives are made in the United States.

I've ordered a $3.99 Schrade and $4.95 Rite Edge "Barlow". Both China made. I'll be posting an in-depth review and comparison of both knives:):foot:;):p.

Okay! The Schrade and the Rite Edge are both crap. Of course:foot:

Schrade 278 (Brand: Taylor Brands LLC, Location Kingsport, TN)
Made in China
·Stainless steel blades
·White composition sides
·Nickel silver pins and liners
·Stamped aluminum bolster
·3-3/8" closed

SCI278.jpg

Stainless steel blades have a polish finish and look like they could be made of plastic with the large blade having the Imperial stamp on one side and 278 CHINA on the other side. Composition[?] sides are not even solid plastic and poorly fit. pins (2) and liners are cheap. Bolster (stamped metal) like the handle is hollow. The end spring for each blade is good and causes each blade to hold in place firmly when open. Poor grinding to add an edge to each blade. Overall, stamping and snapping seem to be the manufacture process. Bad knife. Less than $5.

Rite Edge 20601 (Brand: Poorman; Location Unknown)
Made in China
·Stainless steel blades
·Wood sides
·Brass pins and stainless steel liners
·Stamped aluminum bolster
·3-3/8" closed

210601.jpg

Stainless steel blades look and feel good with satin grind line finish. Large blade has Rite Edge stamped on side and STAINLESS on the other side. Box has "210601 China" printed on end. wood sides look real but poor fit and matching of each side thicknesses. brass pins (3) and stainless steel liners are good. Bolsters are solid stainless steel. The end spring for each blade is good but a little weak and causes each blade to hold in place a little on the loose side when open. Poor grinding to add an edge to each blade. Overall, machining seems to be the manufacture process. Bad knife but overall better than the Schrade 278 Barlow (China). Less than $5.

Suggestion: Are there any good Barlow knives not on the cheap? I'm not talking about overpriced issues. Just a good Barlow made with the same quality of earlier days. The Ride Edge Barlow seem to head in that direction but falls short and the Schrade Barlow really is a piece of junk with little redeeming quality from yesteryear.

Now, I'm exhausted with this waste of time experiment that cost me over $10 to complete.

As for the Poorman brand. This brand seems to be compared to the Frost Cutlery brand as far as quality and pricing goes. Does anyone have any information on Poorman Knives?

Discount Knives

The best place to find discount knives is on the Internet. A recommended site can afford to charge you less because they have no overhead! The exact same knives will be priced much higher in the average store or retail outlet.
Brands of Discount Knives

For the best discount knives, Poorman and Frost Cutlery have a fine selection of quality knives at cheap prices. Poorman's "Rosewood" is the classic wood-handled hunting knife, of fine craftsmanship, with brass bolsters and a rosewood handle. Poorman's "Folding Hunter" has a stainless steel blade, a black rubber handle, and measures 4 1/2 inches closed. It's lightweight at two ounces.

Poorman carries a three inch Brass Knife. This classic has a stainless steel blade with a brass handle. It's three inches closed, and weighs one ounce. All these Poorman knives are a great buy at less than $5.

Frost Cutlery has a great line of cheaper knives. The "Metal Jacket" has a 440 stainless steel blade with an anodized aircraft aluminum handle. A key is included for tension adjustment. The "Silver Legend" has a stainless steel clip point blade with a stainless steel handle. It's a linerlock with a thumb stud. http://www.articleinsider.com/article/21940

If you are looking for a Barlow with the quality of the older days look for an older Barlow. You can probably find an old Russell, Camillus or a Real USA made Schrade for around $15-25 on ebay. Or you could pay a bit more for a new shiny Case.

I have a small fixed blade rite edge USA that I used to use on small game when I was a young kid and just recently dug it back out of the knife chest. tryed putting a decent edge on the knife with my stones that keep my edc and hunting knives razor sharp with, but this knife just can't take an edge. very cheap steel, whatever it's made of, and probably wouldn't ever buy another regardless of price

Am I missing something? You got two knives to your door for around $10?? If they will cut butter and not fall apart in your pocket you got a good deal. You can't buy a decent cheeseburger fries and a coke for 10 bucks

These knives are total crap but are fun to keep sharp and give to a ten-year-old. They can whittle with them and wear them out. If they break, you're not out a lot of money.

Meh.
