Ritter Grip spring fails, Aeromedix fails to reply

Hi everyone:

I have been the very happy owner of a full sized RSK, and would have bet my life on it. Well after fairly light use, one of the omega srpings has failed. This in itself does not prevent the knife from functioning at least with partial lockup strength, but I am uneasy with the lockup till it gets fixed.

So I emailed Aeromedix, no reply for 2 days. I emailed again, still no reply. I will trying to get in touch with them one more time by phone or using another contact. I hope that the spring breakage is just a fluke. I also hope that my not getting a response from Aeromedix is not a usual thing too. If they don't respond, I hope Benchmade will make things right.

Now if Benchmade allowed warranties to remain in effect if you disassembled your knife, then spare springs could be provided and this problem wouldn't be one.

Except how many knives would they get back in pieces?

I assure you, taking apart (and successfully putting it back together of course) an AXIS lock knife is not an easy task.

Never had a problem with my RSKs (after some extremely hard use) so I cant speak for Aeromedix's CS since I have never had to contact them. If it were me I would deal directly with Benchmade. My experience with their CS (regarding other knives) has been great and this should be covered under the warranty if you haven't already disassembled it. If you have already taken it apart then just call Benchmade and have them send you a spring.

Try a phone call. Most companies are much easier to get a response from that way than email.

I kept my fingers away from the springs, but exept the locking part it is a joy to do. Takes me less than five minutes to put it back together. A 806, which might be a bit simpler in construction than others.

Just out of curiosity, why contact Aero. if the spring broke, and there is some age to the knife (i.e. it's a few months old, not just purchased or broke out of the box, etc)?

Benchmade will fix it, of course. But if I bought a knife and some significant time passed, and it broke, I wouldn't contact the retailer.

I agree with you, dan. Of course, under the circumstances, it worked out great, having Brent reassure everyone also.

Hi All-

My suggestion is to make several attempts to contact ANY vendor via e-mail and telephone before running to an online forum to slam them. Their server could have been down or there could have been large numbers of personnel absent due to illness...especially if it is a small company.

It looks like the owner of this firm heard about this unfortunate problem and immediately took steps to correct the situation. I'm inclined to send business towards Aeromedix.com based on their rapid response to this thread.

Email can be especially difficult these day, and you can thank the @#$%^&* spammers for that. So many providers and recipients have implemented measures to block spam, that they block mail they want, also. It's a lose-lose situation for the good guys, so like Blue Jays says, don't think they're ignoring you.

The only instant gratification I get these days is when my head itches, I scratch it right away. :footinmou

You know, I have been contemplating buying a Ritter Grip for myself as a Thanksgiving present, and now I have a reaso to. The simple fact that he camen on this site to deal with somebody in a proper manner has sold me.

Expect my order soon.

Also just FYI, aeromedix let us borrow a mini grip gratis for a passaround. I've thanked Doug but let me thank Brent too! Thanks Brent! :D

BTW, It's a great knife.

I called Aeromedix and they had already heard of this thread. I have to admit I might have been a more patient person and made the phone call first, but their 800 number doesn't work into Canada. Anyway....

The persons who answered the phone were very apologetic and were concerned about my problem. They resent the email they had tried to send and it arrived immediately. I am satisfied with their offer to help me out to get this knife repaired.

I would whole heartedly reccommend Aeromedix at this point and it was not my intention to denigrate them here. I was mostly expressing my dissappoinment at having a broken knife. Thank you Aeromedix for taking care of me.

Anyone thinking about buying the Ritter Grip, my experience has been great with the Mini. It's my EDC. It's a great value at 100 bucks.
