Ritter Griptilian vs. Osborne 940

Stonewashed S30V with black handle.

S30V has enough resistance to corrosion to not need a coating, and I find an uncoated blade to be a little easier to clean after food use (it's easier to see when its properly clean.) I also think an uncoated blade looks nicer.

The orange scales are a little too "pastel" for my liking and I don't need my knife to be Hi Vis. I don't put it down and won't be dropping it. It's either in my hand, clipped in my pocket, or inside a belt pouch.

izula! it will do everything a small folder will do with less maintenence [cleaning or other wise] stronger than a folder and is small enough to be sheeple friendly. bullet proof warranty. put some scales on it and u have a knife u could use to chop a benchmade in half. the izula imho, is the best value in the knife world today. feel free to show me a better knife for the money available today folder or otherwise. ill be happy to admit that im wrong.

Thank you guys so much for all the great replies and advice. It is sounding like the Ritter is the better choice!

RevDevil, I mentioned in a previous reply that my fixed blade is a 7" Ka-Bar USMC. That is what I will be using for battoning, not my folder. I realize the USMC is not the best fixed blade - I bought it earlier this year for around 65 bucks with a cabelas giftcard (as I am a student I don't have that much money for knives =P) I figure it will get the job done out there though. My next investment in knives will certainly be a nice fixed blade survival knife.

That KaBar will do the trick, that is a great budget choice. It should last a long time. Go with the stonewashed blade and black handle on your knife. Don't forget to get yourself a nice bright lanyard in case you drop the knife.

Cool, black handle + stonewash it is. Maybe I can even get my little 12 year old girl cousin to make me that lanyard, hah.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate everyone's advice and help. You are all so nice! Why did I wait so long to join this forum? I'm really looking forward to talking with you all in the future!

We're all glad to help. Just make sure you stick around, keep learning, and contribute to threads that interest you. Lots to see around here. Take a couple pics of your new knife when it arrives, with a nice lanyard of course ;)

I didn't read it said here...whatever folder you choose to carry, in the outdoors I would always pack a fixed blade also. Use the folder for utility and backup, use the fixed for the larger chores. Also make sure you pack a set of CrockStix or at least a small whetstone for those needed touchups while out there. 10-4.

he is carrying a fixed blade. He said it multiple times.

I would definitely go with the Ritter, it has a taller grind than the 940 which would be much more useful in the outdoors. In addition, it has a meatier handle for more hard-use-esque jobs. I used to have a Ritter Grip and do currently own a 940, but I do wish I had the Ritter Grip back, it's a very confidence-inspiring knife. The 940 is great in its own role (which I envision more of a EDC knife) but doesn't seem like it would be ideal for the outdoors for some reason...

Good choice but I say get the orange handle. Sure you think you won't drop the knife but it can always happen and when you do you'll be able to see it a lot easier. Plus orange is just cooler!;)
