I'm interested in buying a Ritter Griptilian and was wondering how you all like yours and where you bought it. If you could send me a visitor message on where you bought it, I'd appreciate it. The only BF dealer I see that's selling them is Knifeworks.

Knifeworks is the exclusive dealer of the Ritter version as I understand it. Ritter's do pop up on the Exchange from time to time as well. I have both the full-size and mini, and would highly recommend them - good luck!

Only one place to buy Doug's BM knives. I have EDCd both a mini and full sized for long periods. Both have held up well. My full sized Ritter has been EDCd for the past 5 years.
I use it mostly to open boxes, cut zip ties and shipping straps etc. The knife is as sharp as the day I bought it. The min had a lot of carry and eventually it fell out of my pocket and the tip chipped. I fixed it by hand and now the knife works great.
Here is a photo the shows the 3 Ritter's along with some other BMs. Both full sized just got upgraded custom scales. That said the factory scales although not too sexy are very durable.

Thanks for the feedback folks. If by chance I wanted to get a different scales for the Ritter, where do you go?

I really like the Ritter Griptilians too. I bought the standard and the mini from KW. I think the Griptilian in general is just about the best value out there with respect to price and quality so I have several variations. I picked up the Ritters to have a Drop Point blade variation. S30V is my favorite steel for EDC too so the Ritters are up there with a couple limited edition grips that I have as my favorites.

You can also find custom scales from Cuscadi, Wilkins, Alan Putnam, and a vendor or 2 on Ebay. The Ritter blade profile slices better than the 550 or 551, but the Ritter blade is not as "pointy". It's a trade-off, depending on what you use your knife for. My experience with 3 different S30V Ritters was not good, the blades all chipped a lot in use. I like the Ritter blade shape, but wish it was available in another steel. YMMV

I had one but traded it a while back. I've missed it and have been trying to find someone to trade for one. I had no idea how popular they really are. One just sold in less than an hour on the exchange. Every time one pops up, it sells almost immediately. I was offering a discontinued original afck for a trade and no one was willing to part with their ritter. That should say something about how much people like them! They go for ridiculous prices on a certain auction site.

If you make the plunge to buy one, I'm sure you won't be sorry. But if you are, it'll sell almost immediately on the exchange.

Blades chipped? Is this a common problem with the Ritter?

+1 good form Mahoney.
Don't forget to add DeathOfAllThings & Igorded to your list.
Both are here on BF and on other forums too.

I have large and small of both the M2 & M4 LE Ritters.
My fav is the M2 version.

The M2 versions, yes.
The M4 versions are not as rare and I have seen them come up for sale quite often.

Not a problem w/ the Ritter, more like a less common general issue w/ some initial grinds on S30V steel, regardless of make/ model/ manufacturer. Once the edge is refined, which in most cases is how the blade comes straight from the factory, it's a non-issue, (in my experience at least). S30V is my preferred steel for moderate -heavy use as it can take a super sharp edge, and hold it seemingly forever - I've never experienced an issue w/ chipping, outside of a couple less than perfect factory edges, that were easily touched-up and never presented future concerns.

M2/ M4 are super steels for sure, but I've never been dissatisfied w/ my more generic premium steels to justify the price premium. Your mileage may vary of course.

I find it relatively easy to sharpen the edge so that it cuts like a laser and it seems to stay that way forever...........almost.
