Ritter Mini-RSK Mk1

I will confess that the more I see this knife, the more it interests me, even if I would like the price to be around $75 or $80. I may have to buy one. :footinmou

Mr. Ritter, I'm very impressed with your EDC knife and PSK (high quality products and extremely well made and thought out). And I was wondering if you plan to make some kind of Doug Ritter's ETS Flashlight.

Excuse me if this is sort of 'off-topic'.

Doug,

Thanks for the information. Much appreciated!

One more question - is the Benchmade logo anywhere on the blade?

The Benchmade logo is on the reverse side of the blade.

I wish it were less expensive as well, but... :( it is what it has to be all things considered. The good news is that to date (knock on wood) customers seem to believe they are getting their money's worth.

Thanks for the kind words. I have looked into it, but one of the requirements I have tried to hew to is that I have to be able to offer something that's a good value and that fills a need I don’t' see addressed in the marketplace. I'm not inclined to just slap my name on something that's already readily available and I don't want to have my gear priced where it isn't "affordable." and a good value. With flashlights, there are so many options available that it's hard not to find pretty much anything you want. I do have some unique ideas, but to date the cost of implementing them is prohibitive. That may change in the future. We've no shortage of ideas... :D

Thanks for your interest. I'm always interested in suggestions.

Doug, I'd send you email, but it's turned off. :)
Sorry about that! :footinmou Fixed, I think.

Any chance you would send a mini for us to try as well?
I have spoken with Brent Blue at Aeromedix and he has agreed to do this. Please drop me an email so we can make arrangements to get one in your hands: dritter (at) equipped (dot) org or doug (at) dougritter (dot) com.

I got a yellow one yesterday. I love this thing, so sharp and locks up like a vault. Totally worth the money imho.

Per UPS, mine arrives Tuesday. It will go into the drawer with its big same sn's brother. I've never been that attracted to the smaller Grip but I couldn't pass the opportunity to have a matching set.

BTW, my Sebenza didn't move from its place in my backpack, but a second non-sn RSK showed up in my truck's console. I don't EDC any Griptilian because there are more comfortable knives that carry better (the grip is too rough and thick), but it's nice to know that one is close at hand if needed.

Appearances can be deceiving. I always passed on the mini because it looked too small -- it's not. Its a nice size and the RSK blade is very useable. Definitely a winner.

Thanks, and interesting comment and apparently you are not the only one. We've had a number of instances where a customer has received their matching Limited Edition Mini and then ordered one or two addional non-serialized Minis to EDC or to give as a gift. Even though I am still a larger knife sort of guy, I have to admit the Mini grows on me with daily use. I am EDCing both and I find myself more and more reaching for the Mini.

I don't have any of the Ritter-Grips but I've got experience with the regular Grips. I started out with a mini and thought it was great in how it felt in my hand. I wanted a slightly longer blade so I got a regular sized grip and was very disappointed. The larger grip was way too fat in the handle for my tastes, and the blade was thicker, again too thick for my tastes. I like the thinner profile of the mini, in blade and handle. I like my pocket knives to cut well and a thicker bladed pocket knife just doesn't do it for me. I'm usually in close proximity to a fixed blade if I need a thicker knife. All that said, I'm very interested in the mini-RSK. Just my opinions, for what they're worth.

If anyone wants to try a mini, and lives in the US, wander over ot the passaround forum, I expect there will be a signup thread starting in maybe a week or so.

How long will these knives be available?

Not sure what you are asking. The Limited Edition serialized Minis will be available until they are gone, still plenty left. We anticipate the standard full-sized RSK Mk1 and Mini will be available for as long as 1) customers continue to puchase them in sufficient quantity to make it economically worthwhile or 2) until Benchmade discontinues the Grip line or 3) I come up with something better, hard to imagine right now, whichever occurs sooner. :) There are so many variables, hard to guess. The colored Mini is an even bigger question mark, jury's still out if we'll produce another run of those. Again, it's entirely dependent upon sales and customer interest and Brent Blue's anticipation of further sales. Everytime he places an order it's a huge investment and gamble for a small niche market that could dry up tomorrow. Wish I had a clearer crystal ball, but... I'd like to think that it will see continued success and they will continue to be available to discriminating buyers wo can appreciate its unique combination of features for some time to come.

I received the mini today. Look for a signup in the passaround forum sometime this weekend or beginning of next week.

Thanks.
