Which one would you choose if you had to carry it all the time for the rest of your life? To use for general utility, opening packages, camping, whittling, food and kitchen tasks, everything and anything that you ever could use a knife for.

Ritter Grip

I like my Leek, but it just seems a little to "dainty" if you knw what I mean. Not really suited for heavy and hard use. My Mini Grip is fantastic, but I'd like something a little larger, and with a plain edge. These are the 2 knives that looked the most promising for my EDC.

Is there any reason why I should get one instead the other? Also, any real world pics, especially side by side wouldn't hurt.

Thanks!

P.S. Any way to make this a poll?

I have the mini Ritter and I just sold my Para. Had nothing to do with liking the Ritter more, or not liking the Para. In fact, I'll probably buy another D2 Para tomorrow. But if it came down to it, I'd probably go with the Ritter... the mini, not the large. Large Grips are horrible in my opinion and in my hand. The cheap sound they make when opening and closing... the plastic actually feels cheaper on the large... I think it is different plastic actually. The fatty-fat fat-fat handle on the large. No. I'd go small. But you want large, so I'm out. But here's a couple old pics of the mini Ritter next to the Para, just in case that helps any. Crazy idea: Get both!:)

Why D2 over S30V steel?

The CPM-D2 that was used in the Para sprint run has a reputation for excellent edge-holding, better than S30V. I don't have any S30V knives to do a hands-on comparison with, but I haven't had to as much as touch up the edge on my D2 Para since I got it a few months ago.

I had a full size grip, didn't like the hollow feel of it. I do have a paramilitary and it makes for a comfortable EDC. The compression lock is right up there with the Axis.

I'd probably go with the para, honestly, though I like the design of the Ritter better. I think the blade shape and ffg along with the slim handle and versatile ergonomics would trump the nicer aesthetic elements of the Ritter. Basically I can see the para being more useful to me on a daily basis.

I still like the Ritter more though. :)

I always heard that D2 was a little more brittle, and prone to chipping compared to other steals, and didn't quite hold up to really heavy use. Is this not true??

While I love the axis lock that is the only thing I think the ritter wins on.

The paramilitary has a bigger handle, made with g-10. It provides room for ALL of your fingers. The flat grind helps to make it one heck of a slicer.

Another thing I think the ritter does better is ride in the pocket. The paramilitary does stick up quite a bit. Also the ritter is tip up carry only. Paramilitary tip down only.

I like the Ritter blade a bit better, but the para handle.
So the answer is: Ritter Grip - with Wilkins Griptilkin scales.
