I see a lot of Ritters here and am considering buying a full sized one. In reading posts I've seen too much feedback about Griptilian quality control issues. I have a Spyderco Stretch ZPD189 in CF and am not impressed with the blade's edge holding. Have a Gayle Bradley and love the blade and over all quality but it's heavy in the pocket. Waiting on my third Blade Tech Pro Hunter in S30V so obviously like them. Have a William Henry T12CF which is probably my overall favorite for daily carry, but nothing in M390. I'm an outdoorsman and like the looks of the Ritter blade for all round use and read nothing but good about M390. I like fairly thin knives for pocket carry and 4.5" is about as big as I want. I'm not a tactical or survivalist guy so the Ritter looks like the best of what's available at a price I want to pay.

Are the Ritters any higher quality than the standard Griptilian or are they the same? I like the M390 on the Ritter but do not like the loss of the scales (apparently like quite a few others here) so will probably replace them with customs. Seems like a lot of money to spend if the knife is so so overall in quality.

Appreciate the input.

I've got an M390 Mini Ritter Grip and absolutely love it. I previously had a Cabelas exclusive D2 Griptilian, which was also nice, but the Ritter feels more substantial and better quality. The blade profile is better as well. I highly recommend it.

I've had one for a while and honestly the only improvement I could see is better handles. The plastic handles of the grips are fine they work well but I think it would be leaps and bounds better if it had the new g10 handle or maybe a set of AWT's. But it's still an awesome folder.

One of the best bargains Benchmade sells. The handles are fine. Don t let them fool you. They are extremely strong. Better that they are lightweight. The fit and finish is fine.

FShaw: I have owned many griptilians along side of many other Benchmades and few Spydercos. I have also had a CRK, Tobin Smith and a GB Shamwari. Of all those I prefer to carry the mini-ritter with custom scales.
Factory Griptilians are fine other than the gamble on blade centering and the cheap feel of the scales. Both of these issues are easily corrected. The griptilians are entry level or base level BM knives and the scales are the product of that price point.
Im not saying that the fit and finish of the mini-ritters is that of CRK or a custom, but what I am saying is for thr price, lock design and ease of use you are getting one hell of carry knife. It is my preferred knife above all others balancing usablility, function, quality, steel, and aesthetics.

I would definitely recommend it.

Anyone had any issues with blade centering or lateral play with their Ritters as received in the box?

Elite_kg, nice looking knife.

Thanks for the replies.

Of the guys who have both the regular and the mini, which of the two would you keep?

Lateral play is mist alway die to a loose pivot. Blade centering, in my experience, is about 1 in 3 knives. I think Ive only had one or two that couks not be centered with a little "tuning."
