Ok fellas. I recently came into some cash and want a new press for the shop. Power hammer gets too loud for where I live and the press would be a great solution. I just want to make sure others are happy with it before I drop 3k and buy it. I know Matt Bailey, Jesus Hernandez, and I think HHH knives have them so that alone has to count for something. I love the H-Frame design and small footprint it seems to leave... So please if you have any pros or cons of this certain press, please let me know. Thanks

Love the press. The only drawback IMHO is the way the foot actuator is designed, as it makes it a little awkward to get in as close as you need to, but not a huge deal. For the money, it's a great press.

Thanks for the reply! :) So if you had to buy it all over again would you? Or look elsewhere? I hear it has a fast stroke. 1" per second I believe? From what I have read that should be plenty fast for welding Damascus and Laminated billets.

Absolutely, I would buy it again if I had to do it over again. I have pretty good control over the stroke speed (variable baised on the amount I press down on the foot actuator) and have no problems making Damascus or San Mai on it. Comparable presses, at 24 tons, will run you more $- I don't have actual experience with any other presses so it would be hard for me to compare the performances, but I remember there were def price differences. I am happy I went with Uncle Al's press at Riverside

Awesome. That's the one I'm going for then. Just one more question. How long did it take to get it shipped from time of order and then how long did the actual shipping take? Thanks again for all you help! :)

I was about to start a thread for this same topic. Glad I looked at the recent threads. I am officially in the hunt for a press, I will keep an eye on this thread for information to use.

I have the press and it works great. The dies are simple and cheap to make and the foot print is quite small. I actually have mine on locking casters so that I can move it out to use and push it back against the wall when not in use. It is pretty loud though if that is a concern. It gives off a high pitched screech the whole time it is on. In some ways it is louder than my power hammer.

That's a good idea! Thanks for the reply! About how long did it take to get it after you placed your order?

Dan Graves in Shreveport has one of these. I've used it several times and really like it. You should go by and check it out if you can spare a day of driving.

So do you currently have a power hammer that you won't be using any more? I'm only an hour West of you and can find a trailer to take that noisy sucker off your hands ;)

How high are the jaws on that press? In the photo on their website it looks like the jaws are higher than would be comfortable. They look like they are at shoulder height.

I'm pretty sure they are lower then that. I've seen pics of Matt bailey using his and he bends over slighty to see his work

Jawilder- lol I'm not gonna sell the hammer. I'm hoping to have an industrial space withing the next year or two. You're always welcome to come to the shop and bang on some steel tho ;)

I'd love to come by for a visit sometime. We should have a hammer in sometime for knifemakers in the area. I've been thinking of buying a hammer for a while, but might be thinking of a press now. Are there any smaller benchtop presses that are easier to move around? Not to change the subject.

Where did you find a used one? Searching the web? I ask cuz if its something that could be duplicated, I'm all for saving money.

I bought it here in the makers for sale area. I think I have only seen one or two others for sale in several years but it does not hurt to put up a wanted post.

Out of all the presses I've seen and have been researching... A few home made ones have been small enough to fit on a Bench. I saw a mini press on YouTube that seemed to work ok. I'm gonna put my riverside press on a wheeled steel cart to make it scarce when I'm not using it.

I'd love to have a hammer in. I don't really have any knife making buddies in the area. Just me and my brother. That's a great idea!!
