Rivets... No Rivets?

Panella,
Thanks for the sneek preview! I just ordered one just like that about a week ago from Buck's custom shop. After looking at your photo I'm glad I did. It's a great looking knife.

Sweet!

Question ... do you guys use your custom 110s? I have my Cabela's 110 on my belt and I'll use it when I need a really sharp edge, but around the house the "stock" version gets all of the use.

Rhino,
I don't use my customs for everyday use, but I do carry them from time to time. I'm fortunate that I have two 110's with S30V blades, the Cabela's and a standard 110 with an S30V blade replacment, which is the one I usually carry. I do have other knives that I normally grab when I need a blade around the house.

I just got a Buck custom in a trade. It got brass bolsters, oak scales, and a BG-42 blade. I've been carrying it, and I'm thinking this will be my one "user" Buck custom. I have a new Buck Custom on the way. :D

I sure plan on using mine, although being a two-handed knife it will always have to be second fiddle to something else.

I like 'em with & without rivets... my problem is deciding on finger grooves or not!

Custom 110 owners (or those thinking about a custom 110):

Did you/would you go for rivets on your custom knife? On my first one (stag, fingergrooves, nickel bolsters, BG-42), I went ahead and got the rivets. Beautiful knife that I carry both hunting and hiking.

The folks at Buck assured me that the scales weren't going anywhere with the space-age adhesives that they use, but there was something about the rivets that made the knife look more like a traditional slipjoint.

Right now, I'm thinking about a very similar knife except with the Asian Waterbuffalo scales. Once again debating the rivets question.

What did you decide?
I need help with my vintage K Bar Union cutlery co. kabar regular us Pat off three and a half inch blade vintage with a sheath I cannot find the picture of it anywhere and it doesn't have the four rivets on the handle

I generally don't like rivets for the fancier handle materials. I don't need another reason why a crack might form. And I want to see the handle material, not rivets. But I can go either way.

Not trying to be rude, but I doubt you will get an answer here. This thread is in the Buck knife forum, you should probably ask your question in the "General knife discussion" forum. Also, it is better to start your own thread, rather than to dig up one that's going on 20 years old (last reply before yours was Nov 2005).
Hope this helps.

I would also recommend that P Peuterbaugh3 try asking the folks who hang out on the Porch over in the Traditional forum - there are some smart dudes over there who I'm sure can answer this question about a vintage Ka Bar.

PS: Rivets. Always rivets. :)
