RJ Martin knives as an EDC?

So far as I can tell they are purely a design feature and don't have a function, other than to perhaps lighten the blade (but I'm guessing)...

Its one of the things that really make the knife unique IMO...

RJ is really the guy to answer that one though...

one of the knives on my short list is the rampage. i like the styling of it. can someone tell me about the striations on some of the models? other than looking cool i can't figure out what they are for:confused:

On the production Groove, the striations make a noise when cutting cardboard. Kind of like playing cards in a bicycle spoke, but for bigger kids.

:thumbup:I have a Martin "Arctic Hunter" fixed blade that I got about 18 years ago at a Waterbury Ct. Knife show from Mr. Martin for a ridiculously low price and have used it hard. It's my hunting/woods wandering knife and I also carry it during my field work as an environmental health inspector. Its been a great using knife for me and the sheath is still in great shape. I contacted Mr. Martin about it once and he said it was 440-C which Im not real wild about but I would have never known from how it sharpens up. I guess its all in the heat treat--KV

I believe RJ's 1st folder was the Q30 which had a blade smaller than 3.5". He also made the Contender model frame lock which is 3.5".They are both pretty hard to find.I was lucky enough to get the Q30 from him a few yrs. ago. I think Les Robertson had something to do with the Q30 and getting RJ into the tactical folder market. You can check out Les's site for pic's on most of RJ's folders.

The striations on the blade allow air into the cut, which can do good things for you in a couple of different ways.

see this is why BF is amazing; I ask a question about a custom maker's knives and he shows up in the thread!

Thanks for your responses RJ... when I have the money, I'm definetely getting one.

You cant go wrong with a Martin custom. I currently only have both Kershaw Grooves and love them.......

4 out of the, no scratch that 5 out of the 5 voices in my head say "Carry them, and use them!"

RJ is the man. I carry a Devastator and a JD Q 36 daily ( among other knife-nerd items)

Cheers!

i mean sort of. The Groove is a pretty nice knife for like $60 but having handled a real RJ Martin after a Kershaw Groove... there is simply NO comparison.

Thats it right there in the old nutshell.

+ RJ is a great guy

Anyone carry a Devastator as an EDC?

Or is it just too big, as mentioned by one poster?

I'm with Steven on this one - the Havok is pretty much the perfect size & ergos for an EDC knife and a very, very nice knife. Wouldn't hesistate to carry one.
