Greetings all!
Is there a secret trick to taking this tomahawk out of the kydex sheath (without slicing a finger)?
I just got this and it seems strange to me that it is so hard to take it out of the sheath.
Any suggestions from experience?

I have 4 rmj tomahawks including the one you speak of. The easiest way I have found to get them out is to put a shoulder strap on the sheath. When it's over your shoulder just give a hard jerk. It works for me.20260601_172919.jpg
 
I don't have that one , but from other experience : you might try forcing the hawk back in the spike direction while rotating the blade front clockwise , out of the sheath first .

If sheath is just too tight , use a hairdryer or heat gun to soften while pulling the hawk .
 
Break it in. Those sheaths come super tight.. after a few hundred draws it will loosen some. I still haven’t figured out a way to quiet it down.. those sheaths are LOUD.

WD40 sprayed on the hawk head helps too.

As @W mentioned, shoulder strap is the best, practice pulling it away from you as you draw it ( especially if you’re thinking about trying a Shrike / Kestral / Jenny ).

I’ve tried all sorts of different strap setups for my hawks. The RMJ plastic buckles have worked the best, they are silent, durable and lightweight. The worst I’ve tried were metal ones ( Sagewood gear ).. they are LOUD, you’ll sound like a shopping cart with janitor’s keys using the metal d rings and buckles. Another simple fix is making a paracord sling - it’s cheap and easy.

I have this strap off of a 2 qt. canteen cover.
I used the existing holes in the scabbard. You all bump started some brain cells of mine. I'm going to be on the lookout for something similar in black though.

That will work. Should lay nice a flat against your side, or lower back. Use a lot of caution when pulling it loose though, you aren’t leaving much room between the edge and your side - those hawks bite.
 
Just an update. It is getting easier to remove from the sheath but still secure enough to never having to worry about it falling out if I don't use the retention strap.
Also, tomahawks are apparently addictive because now I have an Estwing Black Eagle Tomahawk,a RMJ model 1 Blk, RMJ model 2 Grey, and on the way a model RMJ 2 Blk and a RMJ Lagana Vietnam Tomahawk. And I did find a Cold Steel VTAC to boot. :rolleyes:

My only recommendation and addition (with out the shoulder strap) is to make a hand-length of 550 cord on the sheath above the beard, grasping as you pull helps to free the beard first and makes it easier:
