RMD vs BATAC

The Busse-Vortex is getting hard on me...
Ok, for most of you probably it's not a big thing, but in the last two weeks I just scored three new fixed blades (RMD, GW,...and an....well...errr...F1:rolleyes:), and it keeps itchin'...I hunt for an SS4, a Meaner, and the BATACs at the BCS just don't leave me sleep well...what do you think, should I get a BATAC, while I just got a new RMD, or should I just try to forget it - because those knifes are similar in use - and pay my bills...
Some opinions on the BATAC vs RMD, please...

(I guess I have to upgrade my membership to attach pics about the RMD having a good weekend - chopping, making barbecue -sticks, and doing well in the kitchen slicing tomato and onions...)

Both are great knives but for me the RatmanDu has that perfect feel and balance. It is also a little less wide (top to bottom) and therefor more versatile. Others may have uses that dictate the profile of the BATAC and there is no denying it's good looks. Bill

I have both have not used them much but the RMD seems much better as a general use knife while the BATAC is more of a specialized knife. the blade is a lot broader than the RMD should be better at chopping and battening. If I had my choice I would try to get a Satin Jack Tac or Mole Jack before BATAC same general profile but the SJTAC has a longer blade that I feel would be more useful for the type knife it is.

I think the handle is way too large on the BATAC. The handle is just as big as a Fusion handle, and in some ways bigger. Makes the knife kind of goofy looking to me. The RMD looks extremely well executed, however, but I haven't got to handle one yet.

I think your right about attachments, but you can post pictures by first uploading them to a free hosting sight (like photobucket) and then inserting the pics URL into your post using the "insert image" button. I think there are a couple tutorials around if you try a search.

As far as the knives, I love my BATAC, but I've never held a RMD, so I'm not much help.

Just found this in a quick search. The second post describes what I was referring to except rather than pulling links off web pages you grab them from your picture hosting site.

Good Luck!

Dave E, I find the hanle a little awkuard for me as well. I have owned two, got rid of one with mags as it just didnt fit me right. The standard felt better, but still not my fav...go figure. I dont think the handle looks goofy at all but hay to each his own. I like the RMD handle alot, fits my hand much nicer but thats me.

I have handled the BATac and the Ratmandu.

I own three Ratmandu and zero BATac.

The Tac handle just doesn't do it for me, thats why I traded away my SJTac and recently bought an old school Satin Jack (much better feel).

As for usage, the two knives are quite different but I can't think of anything the Ratmandu can't do that a BATac would do better than a bigger knife. That together with the Tac handle has put me off.

thanks guys,

the handle on the RMD is VERY comfortable.
I just thinking about having something similar in size but in INFI....;)
...the quest continues:rolleyes:

thanks spydie54, I know the way of uploading, just I wasn't sure about the rules in THIS forum....:o
but again thank you for your kindness.

The Satin Jack (not Satin Jack Tac) is pretty close.

It's a little more than an inch longer with the difference split pretty equally between the blade and handle. It's a little heavier but not by much (mine is 3/16", some are thicker).

To me, the grip is fairly similar.

Now that you mention the "old" Satin Jack.I've always wondered what's up with this cool designs, the old/not tac Satin Jack and the similar Badger.
Are they still part of the regular production shedule and'll keep becoming available from time to time from the shop?
This two knives in 3/16 and we would have already the Busse "bushcraft"(and more) knive I would say.

No, they are not on the schedule.

Worse yet, the CNC program for the handle scales was lost so replacements are not available.

I think the handle is perfect for a medium/small knife. I have never heard of any fit issues with their handle shape but people with very small hands might think it's too long.

For me, the BA3 is too expensive but I found a good deal on my Satin Jack. Keep your eyes open and you might find a good deal.

Thanks for the info.Such a pitty, they are such nice knives :(.
I think all aftermarket prices are to rich for my budget sadly.

I have the RMD, the BATAC and one or two Fusion handled SH's and FBM's. The fusion handle is nowhere close in size and feel to the "TAC" handle.

That it may not fit everyone is not in dispute. That's why Jerry makes more than one model. Find the one that fits YOU and don't look back !

You are wrong:

The Tac handle completely covers the Fusion handle aside from the pinky shelf. The only way it is smaller is in thinness.

Yea, I agree with J85909266 about that BAtac handle, it looks a bit goofy and is a pretty large. It feels better than the BAe when handeling though. It all comes down to what you prefer looks or usability. .

I'm locking this thread, for using confusing Rat acronyms.
WHAT THE HECK IS AN RMD..... I know now, but, hey, this is the Busse forum.
(Just joking about locking this thread.... heehee!) :D
