RMD vs. modified SAR5

Similar blade-size. Very different handles (for now). Different steel.

Convince me to sell my now-stock SAR5 in green/orange and order a RMD in tanker/BP.

I can't pull the trigger. I'm inches away from sanding hte heck out of the scales on the SAR5. I love the blade shape and the convexity. (Wow. Convexity is a real word??) But I could actually put money back in my pocket selling the SAR5 and grabbing the RMD.

I'm coming here b/c on the Busse forum, I suspect the INFI-holics would be pro-mod vs. ordering a new blade. Looking for the other side of the coin opinions.

I have held a RMD. It was in that ugly industrial gray so I traded it away. I wasn't enamoured with it, but it is a good blade size. I think having that choil just put me off of it. I like the choil-less design on the SAR5 better.

Thanks!

Dennis, the Sar5 is my favorite blade, just as it is. I'm probably the wrong person to ask, as I've stopped buying Busses after getting two Sar5s. I bought one off of you a while back (black blade/ black and green scales). I don't like the choil on Busse/swamprat/scrapyard so I'd say mod the sar5.

I have 3 RMDs on the way from the pre-order and I would still consider buying a SAR5 (YOURS??) for the right price - I love them

Wow. I'm shocked at the response so far. I thought it woudl be 100% "Dump that stupid blade."

Well, I guess it is - you all want it! ROTFL!

If I was you, I would keep the SAR5 and just order an RMD to go with it! It's the only correct answer.

Well since this is the land of Rats. I'd say sell the SAR5, buy the RMD, a Swamp Warden, and if anything is left put it down a nice combo rig sheath.
:D
It is a tough call though.

Good luck.

I sold one of my SAR5s (I still have one left) and I regret it now- but then again, I really regret only being able to get one RMD!

Bussekin knives- you only regret selling them!

Mudglefudge. I caved. Keeping the SAR5 for now, just ordered a RMD. I'm a moron, but a "sharp" moron. LOL

Modded SAR5, you say?

like this?

Can't resist since you asked.....:D

Mod the Sar5...it will be good practice while you're waiting for the RMD delivery.

Holy crap!!!! That is the nicest SAR5 I have ever seen!!!!

Did you do the mods yourself? Whomever it was did a fantastic job.

And to keep this on topic, I think you made the right decision keeping the SAR and ordering the RMD. Eat peanut butter for a couple days and call it even. That's what I'm doing.

Thanks for the compliments! A fair amount of elbow grease went into working that Infi up to 2000 grit. The scales are bone along with a home made Mexican loop style sheath.

Keep the SAR5. I'd like to get one of those myself.

Good to see you ordered na RMD. Mine is on the way too. I have a friend who swears by the RMD so I ordered one.

I already had a RMD and just ordered another one. Just got my first SAR5, I LOVE it! I can't figure out why it doesn't have a huge following. I guess it's because it's so minimalistic in comparison to most other Busses, but that's precisely why I like it so much. I agree that the handle slabs are a bit too thick, that's the only change I would make. Thinking of removing them and taking off about 3/16 of an inch off the flat side, so I can leave the machining intact. If I had to choose between the RMD and the SAR5 I would choose the SAR5. I really like my choil-less knives (SAR5, Vex). Though functional, I consider choils to be almost like wasted space that increases the overall length of the knife. That said, I do have a few knives with choils.

Can't agree with you more on the SAR-5 I love it so much that I own 2 of them... I personally prefer knives around 7inches and under for what I use them for... I can't wait for my RMD and HRLM and warden to be shipped out and see how they compare to my Busse's... Let me know how reomoving some of the slabs go as I was thinking the same thing but was worried that the slabs are ground to the shape of the tang so it may cause the slab to be a bit smaller when you reinstall them...
