a ghost bike next to the west side highway...for those that don't know, every time a biker is killed on the road, a white bike is left near the accident site as a memorial. the sign near the bike states "Dr. Carl Henry Nacht. 56 yrs old. Killed by truck. June 22, 2006. Rest in Peace."

i dabble in graphic arts myself but this sculpture i just don't get...it's made of rubber innertubes.

dggr_nyc_042812_17.jpg

as if riding in nyc isn't dangerous enough, i did it one-handed while holding a dslr in the other hand most of the time

golden touch - lap dances to go? :D

check out how wide the bike lane is! that's premium real-estate - shows how popular biking in the city has become.

It's always interesting to see your posts. Never been to NYC, but looks pretty interesting.
Thanks for sharing.

WOW!!!!!

Epic Post, Jay, and those are some great photos.

The Intrepid Museum is awesome, btw.

Great post man. And Damn the towers have came a long way. Look like you had a good time, how were the drivers in NYC?

Man, old home week with those NYC photos! I left bootprints just about everywhere you showed.

I went to the Intrepid Museum a few times by myself. I took my daughter when she was young, and she had me bring her for another visit. I think the single most impressive moment was the time they had put up an SR-71 with a ladder I climed up to the cockpit. The pilot had to be a little guy, and all curled up, for hours of flight, basically at the edge of space at incredible speeds over enemy territory. Watching anti-aircraft missiles come up at them, but they outran them.

Impressive post. Thanks for the great pics. I'll have to get over to the east coast sometime.

I’m headed back to visit in June, (I’m a born and raised NYC’er) and taking my wife for her first time. Your photos are great, she enjoyed looking at them and they peaked her excitement even more!

The first pic of Downtown, how far is that from Journal Square? I have some friends in NYC and surrounding areas. I been to Jersey more than just a couple times. I <3 that area. I haven't been there since 08 though. But when I was there I got:

Cool pics JV, but I'm glad I don't live in a city like that.

The SR-71 is my favorite aircraft. Love that freakin' thing. I saw it at Scott Air Force Base here in Illinois. It came in, did a giant circle, and shot straight up to 70,000 ft. I could literally feel the ground rumbling under me. I'll never forget it.

Very cool post man, pics are great! We often see posts about the remote wilderness, it's actually kinda refreshing to see bright colors and lots of people in a thread like this!

Thanks for the pics bro, I've never been and those just makes me want to go even more.

Great (beautiful) pics of NYC..even tho I live here its nice to see it through a different perspective. As for the ghost bikes..I hate seeing those as a good friend was ran over near the West Side highway, which made me stop riding. The yellow cabs and commercial trucks will get ya all the time.

thanks! i saw a guy wearing a jack daniels jacket near alphabet city...i was going to snag it for you but the guy looked like he can out-run me even in my bike :p

thanks! weekends are surprisingly tame...there's no way i'd ride there during work week, i'd probably get killed by a taxi or delivery truck! when i'm there by car i have to drive like a maniac like everyone else otherwise i won't get anywhere since the taxis won't budge an inch - you have to call their bluff

glad to bring back some memories for you, esav! the blackbird is still there right at the tail end of the intrepid. i tried to take a pic of it but most of it is out of view from the bike lane...maybe next time when i'm on foot. one of these days i'll check it out in person since i really like that aircraft too.

The subway stations have gotten a lot cleaner!

I missed St.Marks's Place.

i'll be honest, i do miss that urine smell sometimes :p the city had more personality back then...nowadays it's too disney-fied especially the times square area - it's so squeaky clean now what passes for crime now is me driving through with my tinted windows! got a ticket for that once.

that's the newport area, only about 4 mi or so from journal square...lots of changes in downtown jc now too - expensive bars and restaurants are starting to crop up now, along with the luxury apartments...gone are the $2 beers :(

Cool pics JV, but I'm glad I don't live in a city like that.

you damn city slicker

thanks! what, you don't like nyc? i thought you liked showing off your body - lots of um...male variety there that'll be more than happy to help you with your vaseline obsession :p

the city makes me nervous, but I bet it'd be a great experience on a bike. Thanks for posting pics sir!

you're welcome! yes, nyc is a lot more beautiful on a bike. everyone just seems to be running around, always in a rush there otherwise.

the blackbird! yup, i like it too. i almost got a license plate "BLKBRD" once but decided it might incite someone to key my car. next time i'll try to take a pic of it since it's easily viewable on the end of the intrepid's deck from across the road.

Very cool post man, pics are great! We often see posts about the remote wilderness, it's actually kinda refreshing to see bright colors and lots of people in a thread like this!

thanks! if there's an urban jungle, it's nyc...too crazy for me to live, or even work there!

thanks! yeah, one of my buddies who lives in queens refuses to road ride with us there because of it. i try not to ride there alone since even in a group, two of my buddies almost got ran over by a taxi in separate events while i was right behind them only a few feet away...the tourist drivers scares me more than the cabs though!

Sharp pics  Those are some nice bikes

thanks!
