My wife and I have taken many a roadtrips and I always pack a BOB.

I was wondering what others take when they do the holiday road trip.

Also, I plan on taking my .38 to Florida, any problems with car storage?

I will not be carrying it concealed. It is just for car and hotel defense. I will also place ammo in a different part of the car.

Thanks

Chris

Since I don't know where you are, hard to say. Up here, insulation, food, a couple of tarps, water, flashlights, good maps, 1 gal. of gasoline in a good container, flares, traction mats, jumper cables, washer fluid - ah heck, scads of stuff. A complete survival kit of the 1 cu. ft. variety.

As to the firearm, in many states (Again I don't know where you're goin', but Google is your friend.) it is a felony to carry a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle or one with ammunition "ready to hand," sometimes even with a valid-in-that-state CCW permit. If you plan on ignoring those laws, you may also plan on not getting caught. I doubt that any of those who are caught planned on it. But I completely understand why you would do so. Just want you to make an informed decision, jail out-of-town being worse usually than jail in-town.

I take the basics for a car ,
spare water pump thermostat and thermostat housing gasket , and head gasket ,
radiator leak sealant and narrow nosed pliers ( helps pinch off the cut bars after a roo knocks the radiator against the fan , or if you go into deep water too fast and the water forced the radiator against the fan )
spare universal joint
spare wheel bearings , spare points plugs and leads , and dizzy cap .
spare fan belt and power steering belt .
spare water , 20 litres ( this is for emergencies , not for general use )
spare oil 4 liters minimum preferably 8
spare fuel and oil filters
2 liters moreys oil stabiliser
tube silastic gasket
can of spray degreaser .
WD40
Nulon "start ya bastard" ( no joke its what replaces areostart these days )
2 spare tyres
minimum 40 litres extra fuel , if I can I have a trailer with either a 120 litre spare tank on it or for longer trips , a 500 litre truck tank mounted on it , plumbed into the car fuel system thru a 3 way valve that allows me to swap between the car tank or the trailer tank . I got no idea if its legal but it works .

tool kit , I carry a few extra things , tyre leavers , patch kit , 3 claw puller , breaker bar socket sets , spanner sets ( x2 , I hate needing 2 of the same sized spanner and only having one ) screw drivers allan keys torx drivers and a bunch of one of tools like a spanner bent to get to the inside carbie mounting stud and things as this , multi meter electrician tape , wire cutters and fencing pliers , a couple different ball peen hammers . a sledge and a handfull of drifts chisels wad punches and a center punch .

I carry a kangaroo jack and snatch strap ( tow strap that flexes , OK ? ) and a come-a-long winch with a bunch of d shackles , and a tree trunk protector .

I carry a machete and hatchet for getting grass / shrubbery / whatever for extra traction in mud or bulldust holes

I also carry a butcher knife under the car seat , to make the best use of any animals we happen to hit on our travels .

and a multitool in the glovebox .

thats the basics , I customise it a bit depending on what vehicle we are taking and where we are going

As a FL resident I will address the firearm question. In FL you may keep a loaded firearm in your glove compartment as long as it is in a holster and the holster has a 'snap-on' cover over the hammer. You may substitute a holster for some other container such as a zip up pouch. If you put it inside the glove compartment without a holster (or other container), a police officer can conceivably arrest you on a technicality at his discretion. You do not have to lock the glove compartment.

If you choose to carry your gun unloaded, then just put it a separate container from the ammo in your trunk and you'll have no problems.

among others yes , roo goat pig sheep emu ...

I know its not legal to use a native animal here , they are meant to be left to rot , but Im native too , and somewhere I 1/2 remember that Im allowed to because of that ...

regardless , I eat what I kill and kill what I eat . Flies excepted .

Thanks, that is the way I am going. zip pouch and ammo separate.
