A friend of mine just helped me aquire a couple of knives from South African
knifemake, Rob Brown. I know his work has been seen here before but I'm sure the will be of interest.

The pictures will tell alot but honestly you have to see these to believe the quality! I've owned/own some knive by the most reputable makers and I'll put these up with any!

You know that I dig you man, and that chute is a beaut', but there is something "off" about the subhilt.

If I had to guess, that is a 9"+ blade, which is just too long for the handle.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Wow!!! Those are really nice. I really like the Chue Knife. Nice pictures too.

Rob does awesome work and is a pleasure to deals with. I have a pair, Sheffield bowie and Sheffield-styled subhilt, each with a scrim by Sharon Burger.

I like the Chute best. Like Steven, I'm put off by the long blade on the subhilt.

Thanks for the compliments, all from guys that know their knives!

The blade on the sub is 8 1/14" and my angle didn't make it
appear any shorter.

Thanks,
Win

Rob's work is awesome, and very reasonably priced. Those are both great looking knives. The photo does make it look like the blade on the subhilt is too long for the handle.

You KNOW I am a fan of Rob's work.

Think of it this way. All other subhilt perpetrators coming at you get 2" of penetration before their tips start to scratch... :p ;)

Well done, Win. Well done, Rob! :D

Win: That Chute knife IS the cat's meow!! Both those knives are incredible!!! CONGRATS!!

Win great looking knives! I have a Hunter and a Wilderness by Rob that i purchased on the secondary market.I also have a pair on order with him that should be here in a few weeks.

I agree with your assessment of his work, it's about as good as it gets.

Two beautiful examples of a Chute knife and a Sub-hilt fighter.
Congrats,big time,Win.

I've been a fan of Rob's work for a long time and have had the pleasure of owning a couple of his knives - including his chute model. His work stands up to the very closest scrutiny. That's a gorgeous matched pair you have there Win - congrats and thanks for the look.

Win,those 2 knives don't fit in with the rest of your collection. The ironwood on the chute is rather BLAH.The length of the blade on the subhilt is too much.I would be willing to take it off your hands.Just send it over to me :D :D .
Nice knives there,Win.The ironwood on the chute knife looks wonderful. What steel on the blades?.How is the edge on these.

Great looking knives, Win!

I am excited to hear all the postive comments about present owners of Rob's work. I have got a couple of knives on order with him, too. A wilderness and a chute will hopefully arrive sometime in Q1 of 2007. Can't wait to get those!

The sub-hilt does look long, but you can tell by the thing (don't know what to call it) that it is laying on, that the handle is further away in the picture. The pattern looks a lot smaller.

I am sure Coop could make those knives' magic come to life. :)

I have seen more beautiful ironwood on this forum in the last six weeks then I have seen in my entire life.
Keep it coming....

Having been a fan of Rob Brown knives, and Rob Brown, for many years I can actually imagine what those knives might feel like in the hand.

I think Rob does a really fantastic job. The length of the blade on the Sub-Hilt is actually 1/4" shorter that a Loveless Big Bear, or a Lovett for that matter. I have noticed the slightly unbalanced look of Robs Bear before. He grinds it a lot narrower that ours. Rob and Keep in touch, and I think I will run this by him the next time we communicate. Considering that Rob has never seen, much less a real Big Bear, I think he is doing a bang-up rendition. In fact, knowing Rob, I have no doubt that he will be quite happy to get the opinions here.
