There were so many responses about custom knife makers on another topic, that I thought I would create this one for Rob Simonich.

To begin with, I had been looking for a custom maker, when I saw the interesting comments made about Rob's work by Ron Hood on his web site. After viewing Rob's web site entirely, I decided to contact him. I told him what I wanted...it was for general utility/ field use. I asked him specific questions regarding certain steels, sheath materials, edge holding, sharpening, etc. The response I got from Rob was beyond anything I have ever experienced! This man really KNOWS knifes. He throughly & completely explains everything & in such a way whereby I would understand. In my opinion, a person looking for a custom knife maker would be VERY hard pressed to find anyone as NICE as Rob Simonich. It has been extremely easy for me to interact with Rob in every aspect of the project we worked on & now, we are working on a second. Though he is VERY busy, he ALWAYS responds to my e-mails. He sent me pictures of the knives he made for me from start to finish, including the sheath design. I would also like to make a comment upon the way my knives were shipped...no one & I mean NO ONE ships knives as carefully as this man does!Upon recieving my knives, I was near the point of tears!!! They are that beautiful! These are a work of art, almost to the point I do not want to use them (but I will)I wish I was able to post pictures of these knives made by Rob Simonich...I totally & completely believe, without any doudt whatsoever that whoever saw these knives would agree, that they are very well designed for the use intended. By the way, Rob & I have never met nor spoke on the phone & I am a woman. Just so everyone knows, I had talked with many knife makers but Rob Simonich was the one I choose. If you have something you want made that will be made to EXACTLY your specifications & you want the absolute BEST in customer service...Simonich Knives is the way to go.

Thank you very much for allowing me to post my comments concerning master knife maker...Rob Simonich.

Pookie,

Having received a little gem from Rob yesterday, I can concur with your conclusions about the man as well as the knifemaker.

Rob remembered a conversation we had had in the past, contacted me with some drawings for a possible neck knife project and asked me to pick which one suited me most closely.

When we both picked the same one, I knew we were on the same page and the talonite neck knife began to take on a life of its own.

Throughout the process Rob would email me drawings, pictures of the work in progress and keep me updated on his ideas, while asking for mine.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Rob in person in addition to several telephone conversations.

I can't think of a higher endorsement I could give both Rob and his knives; and beyond that, his prices are EXTREMELY reasonable for what he offers.

Rob has joined some other excellent makers in a small band of people I consider good friends. What could make a knife more special than that?

I have a few knives on order with Rob. I really enjoy corresponding with him over email. The knives will take a while but I have no doubt that they will be worth the wait.

I would like to also personally recommend Rob for his work.

Just received two talonite cetans and they are excellent. Beatiful grinds and design. I love the compact size and the heavy duty consealex sheath. The knife and sheath makes a first class package. I should be able to post a photo here in the next couple of days.

Thanks,

Larry

Yep, Rob is a sweetie.
He's made me a few "from the ground up customs" (seen on his site)...that was my intro into the custom knife world. Its a fantastic experience to have someone take your idea and drawings and turn them into reality...and then to see they are more beautiful than you had imagined.

I have a number of his now standard models, including the Cetan Tanto...the first one he made and it is a daily user; I feel naked without it.

Now that I am old enough to trust my first instincts, I have no problem in recommending Rob's work. Sure I have heard about him through people whose opinion I respect (DC, Doc mostly), but I did get to meet him and talk to him for a few moments at the Blade Show. Don't think you will ever have a problem with him or his work. He is the type of person who will deliver nothing but his best effort in giving you more than what you pay for.

Everything that has been said about Rob is on the money - unfortunately I have not had the opporunity to meet Rob yet, but have talked to him a number of times on varied subjects. He has always been gracious, courteous & made time regardless, plus I have always come away from the conversation knowing more than at the start. Rob is definately at the top of my list of favorite makers, plus he likes Randalls. I have ordered two knives from Rob and my only regret is I have to wait till February, though the knives will be worth far more than any wait.

One thing about Rob, the quality of his work is only surpassed by his attention to detail and customer service.

I just received a Talonite Cetan and the knife and sheath are GORGEOUS!! The quality of the knife was no surprise as Rob emailed me periodic status photos. It's a very special knife, and one that I'll always treasure.

He mentioned that it was an honor to make the knife for me. It's nice when you spend your hard earned money with someone who deserves it. In fact I'm just about to write him a check for the next one.

No matter how much it costs (it's a bargain) or how long you have to wait, it's worth every penny and second when you deal with Rob.

Stay sharp!

Jim
