Recommendation? Robust 3.9” EDC Slipjoint?

I have to travel soon to a restricted location and no lockable

or fixed knives are allowed.

I have an older

Boker Plus XS 3.3” slipjoint ​

That I could take but would be interested in looking at something similar (definitely nothing smaller) in case I have to surrender it while on my trip.​

Prefer tip down and with thumb studs or at least a hole for one handed opening.​

My regular EDC rotates between a CRKT​

M21 -14S and a Kay-Bar Mule, if those help reveal my taste (or lack of…) in carry knives.

Rough Ryder 2640. Why cause it has a 3.5" blade and is cheap. Buy 2 in case one gets taken away.

Spyderco P.I.T.S is very robust, but the blade is shorter. Boker Boxer ( or any designed by Raphael Durand). Bear & Sons makes a few and so does Otter.

Aside from buying another knife exactly like the one you already have, you could use your favorite online retailer's search function to look for something that might fit the bill. Here are a few I came up with...

Italian Custom Knives Scarperia Folding Knife with a 3.88 inch blade, no thumb studs.
Bear & Sons 457GB, no thumb studs, but with a 3.5-inch blade.
Boker Plus SamoSaur, 3.43-inch balde, no thumb studs.
Gerber Mansfield Swayback, no studs, 3.15-inch blade.
TB Outdoor Unboxer EDC Folding Knife 3.1-inch blade, has thumb studs.
Kansept Knive Rolf Helbig Foosa Slip Joint Knife, flipper, 3.1-inch blade.
Trollsky Knives Mandu non-locking flipper, 3-inch blade.
CIVIVI Knives Ferrum Forge Stylus Double Detent Slipjoint Front Flipper, no thumb studs, 2.96-inch blade.

The 3.9 inch blade is the hold up. Not many robust slip joints with blades that long. At least not commonly available. I seem to remember some French and Spanish knives that might fit the bill.

Our very own Stroker Knives makes some XL size slip joints. I have his XL trapper and it is fantastic!

My largest slip joint is the Boker Plus Bad Guy. It's only 3.5" but it is WIDE. Ridiculous belly to the point that is doesn't have...well, a point Very nice walk and talk and comes in around $80.

A thumb stud can be added by using a Kwik thumb. I have them on several knives, stud and bar style, and they work fine and can be removed for blade sharpening.

VCM is selling some 3.5" blade douk douks on the traditional forum - you could add a Kwik thumb if needed. Very few slip joints have pocket clips.

I should have said “over 3” and up to 3.9”. I just prefer longer and heavy like my Mule and the CRKT than shorter. Thx

I think as long as the set screw has a clear spot to land, it should work. They also make a bar style that has two set screws for extra secure hold.

Thx. Good looking knife but maybe a little pricey to risk losing.
