Hell, everyone should be proud of ANYTHING they can remember from the late 60's through the 80's!!! I have to admit that a few of these posts jogged my brain, to say, "$hit yeah!! I remember that now!!!"

Keep up the good work. I'm starting to remember things that happened 30 years ago!!! LOL

I'm still trying to find out how Big Dick and the Extenders got their name. Yes, they are real and have been playing at a bar in Key West for like 15 years.

Edited to add

This website has a huge list of odd band names

Hahaha.
They play 2 miles from my house just north of Homestead fl., Redland Tavern , Every sunday.
Richard ( big Dick) is a good sized, old loudmouth, redneck but God knows the extender part.
I'll ask him on Sunday

Buck Cherry got their name from a transvestite that used to frequent the porno store a band member worked at in LA.

same vein, Buffalo Springfield got there name from a steam roller on the side of the road.

Jim Morrison took the name "Doors" from a book by Aldous Huxley called "The Doors of Perception" about Mescaline use. hence.....The Doors.

Actually both Morrison and Huxley were quoting William Blake:

"When the doors of perception are cleansed, things will appear to man as they truly are...infinite."

REO stands for Ransom Eli Olds, The namesake of the oldsmobile auto company. The speedwagon was a initaly flatbed truck. Olds is widely concidered the father of the american auto industry.

Ransom E. Olds was the founder and head of the Olds Motor Works. In 1890 he started his first company by buying out his father's Old Gasoline Engine Works. In 1897 Olds Motor Vehicle Company only made four carriages. The carriages were not a success. Then, Olds went to New Jersey where he thought he could secure financial backing. Because of his lack of success, Olds returned to Detroit and contacted Samuel Smith who did provide monetary funds. The company made gas and gasoline engines. They also branched out into marine engines briefly. Olds experimented and eventually created a small gasoline automobile. He relocated his company to Lansing when a group of businessman offered to build a new factory on their state fair grounds. Soon Olds's little car, the famous "curved dash," became very popular. By 1905 production had increased to 6,500 cars per year. In 1904 Olds had already left Olds Motor Works because of a disagreement with Sam Smith's sons. He founded the REO, (his initials) Motor Car Company in Lansing and served as its president from 1904 to 1924, later becoming chairman of the company. He is considered by many to be the founder of the automobile industry. He built the first factory to use an assembly line manufacturing process.

I actually have three CD's from one band and one CD from another band on this list. One of the bands is headed by the husband of a classmate... small world.

I found Danbo's band: "Hugh Jorgan and the four skins", and Gus' band: "Lubricated Goats".

Let's see, I've got...

5 by the Cherry Poppin' Daddies
4 by Lee Press-on and the Nails
3 by Man...or Astroman?
5 by Skankin' Pickle

And not on the list I've got many albums by Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band, and one by the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah band.

Oh, and incidentally, the band Death Cab for Cutie got their name from a song off the Bonzo Dog Band's "Gorilla" album.
