Just had to crow about this show I saw last night. Phenominal!
Now I don't exactly live in an urban area with a lot of shows so it's really even more amazing to be able to drive about 90 minutes to a place farther out in the country than where I live and hear a show that knocks your socks off.
But some years ago Jorma Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna fame bought a hunk of land in Meigs Co Ohio and built a sweet little concert space 200 people and some bunkhouses and stuff where they have a guitar camp with instruction and then at the end of the camp they have a concert usually featuring the instructors. You can read about it here:

Anyway last night the show was "GE Smiths Heroes of the Electric guitar" and was a show led by GE Smith and his band, with Bob Margolin who used to play guitar in Muddy Waters band, Jazz Guitarist Larry, Coryell and of course Jorma Kaukonen.
The playing was incendiary. My wife said "I've never heard that much good jamming without being in a huge hall or festival"
These are all pretty old guys but you never could have told it from their playing. Bob Margolin was absolutely the master of his instrument and played some of the most awesome blues licks you could ever imagine. His playing was totally inventive. GE Smith was rocking and jumping all over the stage. Coryell had a real nice style and Jorma played some of his really great distorted psychedelic/blues based jams.
As a tribute to recently deceased Bo Diddly they did a "Who do you love" and "Mona" that absolutely blew the doors off the place. GE Smith and Coryell did a version of "Witchita Lineman" that featered a great jazzy acoustic solo by Coryell. They did about a 20 minute version of "Come Back Baby" (I wish you would) a song Jorma did a lot with Hot Tuna that had everybody in the place yelling with the 4 guitarist all trading off one blistering solo after another.
The show lasted 3 hours and nearly every song featured excellent instrumental prowess. Still basking in the glow this AM.
