OLJ! Brother it sure is good to hear from you. We sure have been praying for you. I'm so glad to hear from you and know that you're getting better.

Sitting here recuperating from my latest hospital adventure, and sharpening my BK-9. I still read here often, I just havnt had a lot to say lately.
I saw the last snark thread, thanks for the prayers and well wishes fellas. I am getting better every day. It was a close one for sure. 9 days in ICU then 4 in the cardiac was plenty long enough.

Snark on guys! #153

Good to see you're doing better my friend. Sharpening the 9 can be very therapeutic. ;)

BTW, I just won a year membership at BCUSA!

That was the 3rd time in my 33 years that a Doctor told me I likely wouldnt survive the night. I am starting to doubt them! LOL. Thanks for the prayers.

Im still super weak, (I lost 18lbs while I was in there). But I am going to get it back.
Congrats on the win!

Nice! I finally got around to paying for a membership over there a few weeks ago. Feels good to be able to support a site that gives so much.

Just got this in, and man I really want to keep this bad boy!

It is a lot nicer than I remember. With the right mods, this baby would be unstoppable. Would look so good stripped with new handle scales.

Good to see you back on here OLJ and great to hear you're recovering well.

I have a younger brother who is a pediatrician. I sometimes remind him that he's still "practicing" medicine and should let us know when he's mastered it...

Its really good to see you around Josh. We have been pulling for you man.

It may be a little late for honey facts, but historically there has been wild honey that was hallucinogenic!!! I cannot remember for the life in me if it still happens or not and exactly where. Either way... That aughta cure yer allergies... Lol

There have also been rare instances where a particular batch of honey is poisonous. Oleander Honey. Oleander sap and nectar contain a variety of poisons including but not limited to...

- Digitoxigenin
- Neriin
- Oleandrin
- Oleondroside

Most any wildflower honey from a southern city area will contain minute amounts of oleander nectar, just simply because there are oleanders everywhere. The amount of poison is usually not enough to be an issue, unless one is extremely sensitive to the toxins involved. Sometimes, though, a keeper will put down a hive in an area that has a relatively high concentration of oleanders and, BOOM!!!, Death Honey.

Well, today us my birthday! .... It sure is good to turn 45!:D

Congrats on 45. Turning 45 beats turning 60. Turning 60 was better than stopping at 59. :D:D:D

Hmmmmm, eating cake from yesterday. Somebody just turned 14. :) Gus, did you go to Red River Gorge recently? I went yesterday, and it reminded my a bit of Colorado. Cool. :D

Hey MM. Glad to see you around again. Thought you had faded away, kinda like those mountain mists.
Congrats on 14. Some of us are a little surprised you made it. :D

Yeah, I made it, barley. :D And I'm kinda back. I never really stoped being on here, but I just didn't know what to post.:(

In other news: Modern Gun is so close I can taste the meat. It starts Saturday. My Becker's should get a workout, which is something they have been lacking since school started. :(

This weekend I'll bet some hunting/knife/fire/bushcrafty pics for you all, stay tuned. :D Also, hopefully their will be some furry animals to throw in their too. ;)

Package just came in with my ontario SP5. Pretty nice blade, 1/4" thick and a nice forward balance. I wish the swedge wasn't sharpened. About the same length of cutting edge as a BK9 but with about an inch of unground section between the handle and the edge that allows you to choke up. Feels like it would do alright for finer tasks for such a large blade.

Sheath sucks but they all do these days. Standard nylon with plastic insert. No molle or anything on the back or and provision for a leg strap but there's a bit of a tag on the end of the sheath so you could easily add a leg tie. The plastic insert on mine is tight enough that it holds the knife securely without the thumb snap even upside-down.

It's no BK9 but it's a bit cheaper and still a solid product. I'm glad they brought this one back. Hopefully I'll get the chance to do a video this weekend.

I hate when a $2 screw breaks and shuts down a $300 machine and fouls up an entire afternoon's production plans. :grumpy: Oh well, tomorrow's Thirstday...

Good to hear. Hope you bounce back soon enough.

Great to have you back and making a recovery OLJ. I for one miss your posts.

One picture of you in a dress still gives me nightmares... LOL

Jeremy

congrats on the birthdays folks - and to OLJ for living through the night, even if you're not cleared to make the drive to Nebraska this weekend.

Damn Zee, is there anything you don't know? :) That was some interesting info, thanks for posting. I bought my first jar of locally made raw honey this summer, and have been taking it 2 or 3 times a week. Hoping its pollen content will cut down on my allergies next spring. They've been really kicking my ass for the past 3 or 4 years, so my folks told me to try eating locally produced honey. Fingers crossed...

There's a whole lot of, uh, ... "stuff" that I don't know. I just happen to remember the most trivial, worthless "stuff" that most normal people don't clutter their brains with retaining, while at the same time having the supernatural ability to forget important "stuff" all the time, hence my need to have a note pad and write "stuff" down. I mean, who REALLY needs to remember every license plate of every vehicle they've owned since 1969? Or the ability to drive to a house that he visited ONCE in Dallas in 1975, 30 years later? Or has every serial number of every weapon he has ever owned committed to memory?

My father was the same way, notes to keep track of things to do but able to rattle off "stuff" that most would find irrelevant, such as the ability to remember the price he paid for nearly every item in the store back through 5 to 10 years of changes but forget to bring home a gallon of milk.
