Well, it's finally happened. Got my hands on a Large Regular Sebenza!! I've had a 21, an Umnamm, a Micarta (all large), but sadly had to let them go for other purchases. This Regular is here to stay!!

It's definitely been used, but never beaten. I might treat myself to a spa treatment, but not right away!! I wanna carry this beauty for awhile before I send her out!! There's not enough "O"s in Smoooooth to describe how the action feels. Super Early lockup (bout 20%) which is also butteryyyy...
It didn't come with a birthcard, but I'm assuming I can get one re-issued? Inside stamp says B 04, so 2nd quarter of 2004 right? That would make this s30v I'm pretty sure.

Either way, no matter what happens... I am one Happy Boy!! Thank you CRK and Bladeforums!
I apoligize for the crappy pics and finger smudges... I was tooo excited for even the photoshoot!!

Nice, there is not much that can beat a large regular. It is a superb knife and the pick of the bunch from CRK, IMO. Congrats and enjoy. :)

Awesome 13aphomet! I love the "Plane Jane" Regulars! They are a work of art! Congrats!

Yah, I'm pumped. It's gonna get ALOT of pocket time!!
So can any of you guys chime in on what it takes to get a birthcard re-issued?
A seb feels naked without one! :)

You can get one when you send it back for a spa. Just add it to the list you give them of things you need/want. :)

Sweet, Thanks man. But yah, like I said, sending it out is gonna be hard.. hahah

There is of course no rush and no harm in enjoying it for a while first. :)

As far as sending it in.. would you guys suggest upgrading to the perforated washers? or new style screws?....
I dunno.. I'd kinda want it refurbed. But it's def solid and smooth as butter how it is. So I kinda wanna keep it as original as possible.

I have a large Moon Song on it's way back from CRK now. They cleaned up the front scale, but left the scratches on the blade and didn't reblast the

back scale or the clip. I like the look of older user's, no worries about a few more scratches.............:D:):)

Definitely keep it original... In my opinion of course, It looks pretty nice to me from your pictures. What about the knife makes you want to send it in to the spa other than getting a re-issued card?

My opinion: keep it original. They can still blast the handles, sharpen it, tune it, etcetera, but I would keep all the original hardware on it. I sent a small Reg in for a refurb and got all new hardware as well as a new thumb stud and I regret not having all the original goodies. Especially with a new lug that has the divot on the back and not flush with the blade. I don't know why, but it just rubs me the wrong way!

Love it great knife. If all goes well with a trade (and I am sure it will) I will be posting my Large Regular in a week or so. Enjoy it and use it as I will mine.

The blade looks fine, just a couple very very small surface scratches (but you really can't see em). The handles are pretty marred up though and looks like someone had given it the scotchbrite treatment some time ago. Plus, I want that birth card.
Honestly, If they would just send me out a birthcard, I would just stonewash this bastard in my dryer (which I did to an old 21 I had and it looked awesome)
So yah, looking to re-blast and get birthcard.
There's also some marks on the hardware, so I'd like to get new hardware, but in the old style. Don't know if they offer that or not..

They didn't give ya the old hardware back when they installed new stuff?

I have to agree with my friend Ruthless. But it's you knife and the choice is yours. But from what I can see in the pictures you already have a very nice Large Regular Sebenza that you plan to use.. other than a re-issued birth card which in my very humble opionion just means that the knife is what it is (A Large Sebenza "Regular" manufactured in the summer of 2004 with a s30v blade. I honestly don't see the point. But as I said thats just my opinion and it's your knife. Either way you have a nice example of what many here on the forum consider the best of CRK's designs. Myself included.
I would like to see another picture of the presentation side if you don't mind? The first picture is not very clear,
All the best!

That looks to be in great shape! The blade has the deeper stonewashed look, and the scales and clip look nice. I would wait to send it in. The new birthday card won't have a date on it from when it was made, just from the new card issue. They will confirm the steel, but the knife looks good and you want to keep the original hardware!
Almost forgot- if it's super smooth now then I would leave the washers too, it's already broken in for you!

The "marred" up finish doesn't show up in the pictures, and from what I can see of the finish in the pictures it appears to be the orignal finely bead blasted finish found on some of the Regulars and Classics of that era. as opposed to the typical blasted finish most often encountered, not a SB treatment. Much smoother almost silky to the touch.

Here's a few more pics.. it's not that bad, but it's not perfect. It's worse than the pics show, I can't get every little scratch to show up.. lol
Up near the pivot on the lockside are a few pretty bad rub marks.
So these didn't come with a bead blast on em?.. it is smooth and silky, I was told it was ScotchBrite, but the seller didn't do it....
Would getting them reblasted ruin a now-extinct finish?

It does appear to my eye's that you do have one of the Large Sebenzas with a "Fine Bead Blast Finish" not being able to see the knife in person.. If it is you will notice that the finish is pretty much uniform on all the surfaces even on the inside of the handles "scales" and the pocket clip. You can achieve this by having it bead blasted yourself (I believe one of the members did just that with a 25 and it looks Awesome. The finish is super smooth and silky and almost appears to be a dull silver color. I don't know why some of these knives have this finish.. But I do know they exist as I have three very nice examples that are as new in original box's with the birth cards and other paperwork. Maybe some of the more experienced members can chime in on the finish and its rarity. Here is a link to some pictures.
All the best,

I sent one of my large regulars in for service about 6 months ago. THey did add the new washers, but left the old ones in there as well. So i use it with the new washers and keep the older ones back for extra parts if needed.
