Stumbled across this Japanese brand with outrageously priced (higo goes for 1K) knives in ZDP 189 with RC 67
Does any one have first hand experience ie edge holding, chipping?
THX

Jim Skelton has a youtube channel with a few videos on the Rockstead Shin and TEI. He's does pretty informative videos, check them out.

thanks

I guess not too many people are wiling to shell out that kind of coin for a knife.

Cool looking knives, apparently the blade steels they run are pretty nuts XR57 at like 65HRC etc. But with an aluminum frame lock at over 1k....no thanks

I just ordered a Rockstead CHI in the same steel.
If that does what I am hoping for, then a Higo will be next.
Once it (they) arrive, I will put them thru the paces and report back how they perform, for me.

Edit:
As a little FWIW, I have been in contact with the maker regarding left handed versions of their knives.
They are looking into doing this, but it will not be available for at least a year.

Based on that info, I decided to get mine now, and "upgrade" to lefties versions if and when they do offer this.

If I'm paying $1k for a knife, that sucker had best be made out of adamantium so I can do my Wolverine impression by slicing through steel girders and such.

Beware the hype.
The steels they use are standard steels. Go see what the steel manufacturer says about their own steels and the applications/attributes.
The polish they brag about is just like any other mirror polish. The advantages/disadvantages of a polished edge/finish are well documented.

Jim Skelton's review is simply him reading the Rockstead promotional hype. Zero experience or usage.

If you want the knife, get it for realistic reasons, not because of what Rockstead claims.
Do your own research. Don't listen to me. :)

out my 6 or 7 knives, the Higo is the one I reach for on a regular basis, my favorite to carry
yes I'm a fan of Rockstead, primarily of the design, workmanship and function.

is the one on the hood of the vette the one i touched up for you? i was wondering how well it was holding up.

IMO the Higo is one of the best looking frame locks out there. If I ever win the lotto, I'll buy a few.

^ Yep, me too!

Just some Youtube vids regarding their steel's cutting performance -

Can someone explain what exactly you get for $1K+ with these knives? I've never handled one but I'm still scratching my head...

Rocksteads are something I have been very interested for a while. Never handled one, but I am liking what I see and read.
Hoping my walk-in guy gets some soon.
Good thread
Cheers

no sir, you worked on my Chi which I sold here to a fella in South Africa. The one on the Vette trunk lid is a Rockstead TEI.
but the Chi you touched up was razor sharp :-)
