ROCKSTEAD SHIN Manila rope TAMESHIGIRI

Bought a Rockstead with YXR7 steel at the New York Custom Knife Show, February 20th, 2010. Made a great deal with the CEO $600 down from $750 asking price. When I think about all of the knives in this range, the quality to value ratio is high. I use all my knives because I can't see what keeping them in a closet does. This is one scary sharp knife with keen looks, excellent craftsmanship, a iifetime warranty and 62 on the Rockwell. Lots of junk selling at the show for $600. The South Africans have raised their custom folder prices to the 600 to 700 range from what they used to sell at 400 to 600. Nice looking knves for about three days until all that nickel gets scratched and dinged.

IMO the Rockstead is worth the money, but so are a lot of other cheaper ones that are also good hard working tools. What these knives have going for them is sturdiness and good looks.

Let's face it, every knife nut I know (with the cash) has laid out more money than he or she should have for a new knife.

i have a Tei Zdp more than a year know,
and use it every day. i love the knife,
only polish it on a piece off jeans with some polishing compound.

it's my only knife that stays sharp, ( cutting cardboard boxes most off the time )
and it's my only knife i don't sharpen my self.

after a year the scary sharp was gone, i did send it back to Japan for sharpening
now i't back and it's scary sharp again

love the knife, and money well spend

the only thing that bothers me is the hole in the blade, peanut butter tends to accumulate in there ;)

regards, Martin

I saw the test on the rope and on the bamboo stick personally and it was more more impressive than in the video. I also saw the knife easily slice through a phone book for all day long.

Firebolt. You got any picture of your knife?

over a year now as EDC, it shows
still zero play on the hinge, smooth action as new,
resharpened only ones, the rest was just a quick strop on a piece off cloth
very good clip,
64 Rockwell, you don't to use it as a screw driver, it will chip, but for cutting the best i have, al my other knives will need sharpening every two weeks if i use theme to keep theme sharp.

love it very much, alot off money, but in my opinion worth it every penny

i saw this guy in the nyc show, the knives range from 1200$ to 2500$, the show was great , he beat the bamboo and cut it, them he cut some rope to have a piece of paper being cut with the same blade that was sharp as good as when he stared, he did it all day long and kept the edge, it was truly impressive.
I saw him also, very impressive. The folders are very well made. The black mirror DLC coating looks great. If the prices were more in line with CRK & Strider I would consider them.

nice knives but i don't think the quality is high as much as rockstead...

I have handled Rockstead folders and Yuna's work. His work surpasses most anything I have seen. He also puts a wicked edge on everything he makes..... Better materials like titanium and G-10/ Carbon Fiber make it a much better choice if you want a high performance CUSTOM cutting tool.
