How does a Rockwell C hardness tester work, is it simple to use?
And, above everything else, is it an expensive piece of equipment and where can I find one in Italy or at least europe?
I think a hardness tester is the only scientific way to prove my heat treatment works...

go to your nearest machine shop , they most likely will have a hardness tester and i am sure they could test your blade hardness for you ,,for little or no cost

Checking your work with a Rockwell Harden testers is the most scientifical way to determined the actual hardiness of steel. I use one in my shop all the time. There are many ways to check your knives. But this determines the actual hardness. Some knife makers check there work by using files, and some will bend the metal to see how it will standup to stress. All of this is good to know, but they still do not know the actual hardness. You can get a Rockwell hardened tester from one of your local machine supplies outlets in your area. Or you can simply do a search on the Internet. Hope this was of help to you and have a great day.

I bought a inexpensive import for $850. It does Rockwell C and B. It is a great reference but I have not tried to do a very thin section.
