Rockwell Hardness of the M-Tech Xtreme Raptor Bowie?

https://knifesteelnerds.com/2018/11/12/rockwell-hardness/

A bunch of hrc testing in this spreadsheet bunch of cold steel ones too. Note read the link above. Hrc don't mean shit without context. And performance testing will show how it stacks up, not the number in the list. Cause some of the high numbers do poorly like the china d2.

Check out Supersteel Steve, Outpost 76, Tom hoseng on YouTube for the testing.

Mtech is a gas station budget brand. You may want to just get a better brand that makes better knives.

The Mtech Raptor is an Awesome Bowie. I have it and it's indestructible which is why I am wondering what the hardness is. It's by far the best MTech product there is. I want to know if it has been heat treated because if it isn't, I want to get it heat treated here locally and raise the hardness by 60. It's not a cheap knife, it's a good knife. people don't like it because it's heavy, but it's not that much different in weight from the Ontario SP10. I have many knives and I know quality when I use it!

If it's the best, why re heat treat it?

Because if it's 55-57 then I want to jack it up to 60+. I don't want to heat treat something that's already been heat treated which is why I want to know. It has a 7mm blade that stands up to a lot of chopping and have even cut 7 inch fallen tree with it and no dings on the blade whatsoever. I agree that many of mtech knives are crap, but there are a few rare gems like this one and the Outlander Bowie which is it's twin sister.

Also there are NO bad reviews on the Raptor ANYWHERE on the web, and can give the more expensive knives a run for their money. I have seen Kabars fail, Ontarios, Buck, but NEVER this model of knife!! It's indestructible. people can laugh at an MTech and I love placing bets on who's knife is going to fail, but everybody shuts up when I pull this bad boy out. I love it and I want to give my Bowie the royal treatment.

Because I want to see if anyone knows since we are talking about steel grade.

Yes, but we are talking about steel in regards to Cold Steel knives, since this is the CS subforum. You would probably get better response in the General forum, although there will probably be a lot of scoffing as well, since Mtech is considered pretty low end.

If it works this good as is , then do NOT mess with the HT . The worst thing for a heavy chopper is to be too brittle .

Of course its been heat treated. A blade that isn't wouldn't do what it does and stay intact. If its at say 55 and its working well you don't need to do anything to it. Its quite possible that the manufacturer has determined that 55 is the optimum hardness for that steel as used in a blade that size. You can't just "jack it up".... More is not always better.

You can find a response to this question on amazon by someone who sounds like a representative/seller/advertiser of MTech. (I'm not going to repeat the response here, since I have no way of verifying its accuracy or the identity of the author, and wouldn't want to repeat potentially false information.)

Does anyone know the Rockwell Hardness of the M-Tech Xtreme Raptor Bowie??

8hrc. Very slightly harder than I'd be after seeing Donatella Versace eat heaping spoonfuls of mayonnaise.

If you are serious, you should know the reason it stands up to all that chopping is because it's run soft. If you did manage to jack it up to 60 hrc, the blade would likely chip horribly when you chop again. Just be glad it stands up to it now ; ) honestly - look up toughness values vs hrc for the same steel - they all lose toughness as hrc increases

(oh, fwiw, I half expect you are just a created account by someone in bf to troll a bit, given your posts, and your lack of any history) - if that's not the case, no offence intended

Thanks. I just can't find anything on this anywhere, in which case it's already been heat treated if it's really this tough of a knife, but then again, it's 7mm thick!

Even a big THICK chopper can break clean apart in one instant , if the HT is bad enough . You can get a very hard but very brittle steel .

This is the replacement sent to me by Al Mar after I broke apart their excessively expensive "Pathfinder" machete / sword , way back when . '80's IIRC . :

You can’t just re-heat treat a knife. You’ll mess it up to put it mildly. It would be funny to see you take it somewhere and see what they say though. Take video if possible.

If it’s working for you, don’t mess with it.
